I love the Note series, but went with the iPad Air simply because of size. The Note is totally awkward in portrait mode.
I did the same. I had note for three weeks and as much as I like the note, I found me self liking the air better. Yes, currently iOS has its own set of issues, crashed, etc,... Thing seems to work and implemented better on iOS. I do missed spen though...

Exactly my situation. I used the Note 10.1 for 3 weeks, loved much about it but in the end, too many shortcomings pushed me back to the iPad Air.
Likes:
- S-Pen, while I found much of the app functionality to be lackluster (due to being tied only to the Note or Samsung devices, S-Note being the exception), I loved the accuracy of the S-Pen for handwriting notes. Also makes browsing a bit easier (less zooming on small or tightly packed links)
- Hardware materials were great, device feels rock solid and until the Air came out, was the undisputed lightweight champ.
- Beautiful high-res display
- Expandable memory
- Of course, the flexibility of Android. Android's intent system, allowing full flexibility to share with any app and the ability to customize to no end is a great benefit.
Dislikes:
- Hate the hardware buttons--makes it awkward to hold in portrait as you have to be careful to avoid pressing the buttons or if flipped around, avoid the light sensor else the screen constantly dims/brightens. I'd sacrifice a little screen real estate for on screen buttons. Just my preference.
- 16:10 display ratio--not as much of a problem on a larger device but still not as nice as the 4:3 found on the iPad.
- Bluetooth connectivity problems with keyboards. Won't go into further details here as it's been documented in other threads and site. This, and the fact that third party cases and keyboard options are limited. Suffice to say this was a deal breaker for me.
- TouchWiz. I personally despise it. I initially though it was better on the Note 10.1 vs. Samsung's phones because of the larger screen real estate (large cartoonish design less irritating on a larger display), it's performance wore me down. It's a bloated mess, using 1.7-1.8 GB RAM right after startup. And yes, there's lag. It's not stop in the My Magazine app, very prominent in Gallery and rears it's ugly head occasionally throughout all other areas.
- Android tablet apps still have a long ways to go to match iOS. Some users may not have issues as they have all of the apps they need but many of the one's I use are either subpar to their iOS counterparts or simply don't exist.
Do you find iOS to be restricting your usage in comparison to android?

Slightly, but it's quickly outweighed when taking into account overall feel of the device and performance and the better apps. I really wanted to love the Note 10.1 and despite my problems, it's really not that far off. Samsung needs to stop trying to include any and every possible feature they come up with, stop addressing lag by throwing more power at it and focus on optimizing their skin and software. Do that and it would be an infinitely better experience. The app situation will just take a bit more time and considering more and more people are starting to choose Android for their tablets, hopefully it won't be that long.
