I am thinking of getting a tablet for college for note taking, editing pdfs, digital textbooks etc. I was thinking of either getting the note 8 or a refurbished note 10.1 since I don't have a lot of money to work with and both have a stylus for note taking. Should I wait since there might be a newer note tablet coming out soon even though it might be more expensive or look at something else like the ipad mini with a keyboard? I've heard apple has better apps for note taking and itunesU is far better than anything android has. My concern with the ipad mini and the note 8 is the screen size which is why im considering the 10.1
Is the 8/10.1 actually worth it in terms of productivity for note taking or is the handwriting recognition too undeveloped at this point that it isn't worth it? Im not going to stick to just pen and paper since I take copious notes and want them all in one place rather than in several notebooks. If anyone has been using the 8 or 10.1 for notes/college let me know of your experience with it. Much appreciated.

My college days are years behind me however I am in technical sales and use my note daily for taking massive amounts of notes. I literally write 20 to 30 pages of notes daily a d I seriously will never be without a tablet capa b le of taking notes ever again. You wont be disappointed if you purchase one. I always have mine at my side.

I'm on the other side of the desk - I'm a college teacher and use my Note extensively for marking up PDF files, attending meetings & taking notes, keeping up with student email and my online courses. It excels in these tasks. Battery life is great. If you have the $$, go for the 10.1 (larger screen size) and a 32 GB (you can store files on the sd card, but not apps).

She has lots of demos and how-tos on taking notes in class.

Good luck with your decision!

Hey! I bought the 10.1 last month and it seems like its going to be a great investment. When I buy a product I do research on it to get the best out of it, and so far this is what I have found:

First, a little about me and why I chose to buy the 10.1 Note:
- Im an Engineering student and a commuter
- This year textbook costs (If I had bought the paperback) ~$500 // With my tablet I just downloaded them on pdf versions
- My books weight a ton! Sometimes I felt like a turtle walking around campus lol. Now Ill carry way less weight.
** 10.1 is Better than 8.1, even if the resolution is not as good, size makes up for it
** Note is WAY better than the IPad for taking notes and school. (Though iPad is better for entertainment and other applications)

So tell me about you,
- Whats your major?
- What year are you? I am a junior, so I don't really see the point on waiting for a new version, which from what Ive read there is no new version coming out for the Galaxy note 10.1 (for the smaller device there is a new one coming out)

How I have set up my Tablet (so far):
Creating Notebooks: Lecture Notes- S Note is great but for 1.99 Lecture Notes beats it
- Can greatly customize the page ( Im even using it to make flashcards )
- Exporting ok, though some troubles with Evernote right now.
- S Pen runs smoother than on S Note

Taking Lecture Notes: ezpdf or Repligo (jury's out) . My teachers LOVE to use pdfs and though LN is great for creating Notebooks, the aforementioned are better for taking notes on pdfs.
- I can easily import and update my notes using dropbox so I can view them in my computer later.

And though I have bought other apps, I think those two are sufficient for taking notes.

Other Great stuff about the Note:
-Very customizable home screens
-Can run software that an IPad Can't
-Great SPen, specially when you get used to it.
- Beautiful Multitasking

Bad things:
- I havent tested how much the battery lasts, but it is definitely lower than other tablets (Ill be taking my charger)
- Though the resolution is kind of low, it does feel as if I was writing in paper.

Good luck , and let us know what you decided.

I just finished finals. I used it to study finals, made study guides and everything. I highly recommend it.. its the main purpose why i bought mine last week.

Hello. I have had the galaxy note 10.1 for a year now. I use my tablet for taking notes during lectures. Check out my youtube channel for note taking tips and tricks. I hope my videos help you decide if you want the Note 10.1 or 8.

I have both the 8 and 10.1. No longer using Snores, the 8 has it own set of particularities, none of which are earth shaking. Both excel at taking notes. Holding for an extended period is where the 8 shines.

Just had to ask..."snores". Is that a Tapatalk-corrected S-Notes? Just thought it was a funny substitution. (&&*(^&*( autocorrect. :-D
