So, today I bought a 16gb Samsung Galaxy Note 2 model sgh-i317m, I believe that proves to be a Canadian handset? When I purchased it, I was told it was unlocked, popped in my virgin sim, and all was good. Was prompted to update OS . Didnt do it at the time, decided to wait until I got home to do it over wifi. Get home, go to update, and I get an error message saying I cant update due to the device being modified. Great. Start googling, ran an app called root checker, yep, my device is rooted and the flash counter is sitting at 1. So, I want to unroot the phone, first step is buying the triangle away to reset flash count, then download a program called odin correct? Now the next step is where im stumped, I have no idea who the original carrier of the phone is, so how do I know which to reset it to?! Only reason im concerned is for updating purposes. What are the advantages to staying rooted? Kinda pissed I got lied to, but I guess for $250 the phone was a pretty good deal. Should have done some research first though.
