Note 2 will not update from 4.1.2

Hello I am new so for give me for not understanding. I have a note 2 SCH-I605 it is suppose to be unlocked. I guess it is unlocked somewhat because it is a Verizon phone but I am using T-mobile sim for service. My question is how or why will the phone not update in settings. It states that no services are available. Phone Is running 4.1.2. Thanks

I got it to update. I placed a Verizon sim card into phone and it updated; must have some kind of Verizon lock on operating system if on another sim card or carrier
