You can but you won't get the same speeds as a dedicated ssd drive. Give it a try for yourself and see if you like the performance.

Also, remember that you can only connect modern devices to your PC via MTP, not as a USB Mass Storage device. Older phones could connect as USB Mass Storage because they partitioned internal storage into a system partition and an "internal SD" partition (used only for data), and it was the latter that could mount as mass storage.

I remembered using my 512GB ROGPHONE 2 as an external hard disk. It was slow... Thus i bought the 500GB SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD. Works way better.

i dont know whether its true usb mass storage device or not but i was able to get 200GB worth of songs and photos into the phone then i gave up...its just too slow...

but as far as i remember it is usb mass storage device.
