Hello all,

Damn glad to be here .. yesterday my phone decided to hide all the Gallery folders and photos. They are still present and usable in File Manager, but Gallery itself is empty, 'cept for empty Recents and Favorites folders. I've gone in and checked permissions for Gallery, and every app or folder that uses Gallery is set to "Allow", or "Allow while using app" depending on option available. I have even done a Reset, tho not factory yet, waiting on all folders to copy onto the PC before I wipe it and start new.. I can tell its a stubborn permission hiding them bc when I - first - click Gallery, all the photos, folders appear for a micro second then disappear.

I've watched couple dozen YT vids how to get the folders to reappear, they are - not - gone, I can see them in File Mgr. I have gone into Apps, Gallery, and cleared Cache and Data many times, clicked Force Stop both before I cleared, and tried again after cleared, on other tries. Restarted phone each time, hoping the folders info would repopulate .. no change.

I can use File Mgr to pick a photo to attach to a txt tor email, it's the only workaround atm ..

Short take:
Cleared cache and data many times
Checked all possible permissions on Allow (or Allow while using app)

.. waiting for all folders to copy out, then doing a wipe, reset ..

EDIT: Is it possible to REMOVE / UNINSTALL Gallery, then reinstall to get all permissions reset to "normal working settings"? Or re-d/l it to overwrite the present one? (not update)

Paula

Welcome to Android Central! What directories are the photos in? Using the file manager, go into those directories and make sure there isn't a file called ".nomedia" present in any of them. That kind of file instructs the system to ignore that directory when scanning for media and having it show up in the Gallery app.

Welcome to AC!
You can try resetting the gallery app by long pressing it then tap info>go to storage and clear Data and force stop the app in case it's glitching but can't uninstall but this method resets the app

Can you test with another gallery app, like Google's Gallery (which is a lite version of Photos) or Piktures?
I can get to everything thru File Mgr, and now .. looks like Google Photos .. its just Gallery that's busted .. I have abt another hr of copying everything off the phone onto the PC, then I'll chk the SD card .. photos seem to be accessible thru everything - except - Gallery .. but when I click Gallery first time (after clearing, Stopping) the contents flash then disappear (clearly a permissions thing). So, with few more clicks, I can attach, thru /Images or /Videos .. just a pain ..

Ok if you tried that then try the SD card removal and reboot

Also, check the Samsung Galaxy Store app on your phone to see if there's an update for the Gallery app. (Your phone might be too old for that, though.)
