Note 3: No quick access to camera

Speaking of this topic, I have the shortcuts on my lock screen as well. When I push on them it wants me to swipe....Therefore taking me to my home screen. So what's the point of them? I want to be able to press the camera or text etc....but doesn't work.

To get them to work (in my experience) you have to push on the app shortcut and swipe upwards whilst you do so. This worked for me vs just pushing on them which wouldn't take me to the app itself.

Hopefully this makes sense, it's really early here in San Diego! Ha

Just swipe from the app upwards. You don't have to push the app first

I got this reply yesterday :

Thank you for contacting Samsung Customer Support.

Following your email, we have contacted the engineers. They are aware that some versions of this update have removed the camera shortcut from the lock screen.

The developers are considering fixing this with an over the air update. Due to the nature of the work they are undertaking we are unable to give a release date for this particular update.

Mine's a Germany bought Note 3 that received the 4.4.2 update in the UK. The primary update (383mb) put the lock screen camera shortcut on. The secondary app update took it off. Looks like we just wait....

You have to have the Swipe Security on any others it wont work.

It is UNACCEPTABLE that we have to give up security options in order to enable the widgets on the lock screen, especially since previous iterations of the software allowed lock screen widgets and security options.

Not only that, but previous TouchWiz/Android versions on older phones offered secure PIN and lock screen shortcut functionality.

It's terrible that we have to waste 1.3 seconds of our time to unlock our phone! Oh the atrocity!. (yes, this is sarcasm)

I haven't had an Android phone older than a GS2 on 4.0.
Never used a lock screen because of my own requirements; but it doesn't make sense to have a shortcut icon on a lock screen set with a pin/password - unless say with a camera it allowed you to take 1-5 shots, have no access to the Gallery or the rest of the phone, and then shut the camera and phone again.

Is that how it used to work?

Would you want someone to pick up your phone and take a compromising or indecent photo to be discovered by loved ones or the police later?

@Greg Wilkins

😂 that was not the point. The point was that 4.4 update broke my Note 3. The missing icon was just an indicator something went wrong. Btw I still use a camera for photos not my smart phone.

Good point. Just added the icon to mine and swiping it works fine.
