So I can't help but laugh at Apple. The 5S is soooo mediocre wow. 64-bit chip...That's cool and all, but what the hell does iOS do that would even need it. Who is really going to play some crazy GTA-esque game on a 4 in. screen? The one thing that impressed me was the camera. The software optimization and engineering is truly amazing.

However the overall package. Note 3 has my money

Same here.
I laughed my **** off when the introduced their "cool" case for the new iphone because they have NOTHING new.

Def nothing that's gonna make me grab the i phones over the note 3. Just wish I could find out when I can get my hands on it

Yeah I'm lucky to have AT&T whose always ontop of new phones. I have 2 days to return the Moto X, suffer for two weeks with some cheapo Go Phone until the Note comes out. I'll order it over the phone with ATT since they are giving me a courtesy upgrade. ^_^

Yeah the iPhone can't compete with the N3 but for a phone with close to the same screen size then the win will go to iPhone. The screen is why I'm choosing the N3.

Did they actually have a live stream? When I checked at around 1 eastern they said there is no live stream which I thought was odd. I guess they will post the whole thing again tonight.

64-bit is a pretty big jump in my opinion. I'm surprised Apple didn't add RAM to fully utilize it.

Gotta love them sticking to their guns on no NFC, a retina display that isn't record breaking, and keeping similar things the same. Apple, disguising innovation as colors.

Exactly what I was kind of thinking. Yea you can upgrade the CPU/GPU/guts all you want. Throw 64bit in there. New processor for motion, but when it's almost the same screen, with a slightly beefier OS, and small amounts of ram, it's like what's the point? Apple made a poke as Samsung for "just adding features" but in all honesty, they're just throwing a jet engine on a Nascar. It's already fast, but it goes around the track the same way. It's like they're just vying for benchmark buffing. And when I pointed out the screen, my friend mentioned that's why we have tablets and laptops if we need bigger (he's an Apple enthusiast, which I get). I have a 4.7 inch screen and when I compare it to my girlfriend's iPhone 4S, it just feels so small and the quality on my phone is by far better especially with 720p videos. I can only imagine what 1080p videos look like on the Note 3. Especially for people who like videos, there's no contest.

Apple always does seem to add really cool camera features, that's where I think they excel. But again, I feel like pictures would sparkle better on a bigger screen - especially if you show them to older people who squint at stuff on a 4 inch screen :D

I really hope we get to see this presentation at some point in time. I am really surprised that there wasn't a live stream, guess they were afraid to show their lack of innovation.

So, with the 5S we get:

Faster CPU: No surprise there, but just like a computer that could run a game at 70 fps and now can run it at 100 fps, you won't be able to tell the difference.
64 Bit: Ok.... uhm...sounds like a marketing tool. First 64 bit mobile cpu!!! The consumer will say : "Yay! Great??!! Apple says it's great so its gotta be!" If you tell those people that Siri will give you better answers now because it's running 64 bit, they will probably believe it too. It's just another marketing hint for "more speed". It's a bit of a head scratcher for most people since iPhones always felt smooth and fast. Either way, I guess it's a good thing, we live in a 64 bit world after all.
Camera and flash: That was to be expected. Never seen a iPhone generation go by without the addition of a better camera.
Gold color: It actually looks good, especially that polished lip. Will that mean sales of cases will take a dive? After all, who'd wanna cover up that pretty, fragile, phone?
Scratch resistant metal: What did they do? Spray some bed liner on it? Should be interesting to see how it holds up.
Fingerprint reader: We saw this some years ago with the Atrix. Wasn't the most popular and used feature and it didn't work all that well. With all this talk about privacy invasion, it seems to make sense, especially since you can use it to insert your Apple ID password when buying stuff, and I am sure other developers will find other uses for it, but...there will always be that pressing question, who will have access to my fingerprints? Then again, we're all putting our trust and private data into the hands of big corporations, so that's really nothing new. I find it a useful feature.

And how about that iPhone 5C! Brought to you by the Fisher Price, Playmobile -esque design studio! Seriously... gawdy colors together with the same colors in iOS7, it couldn't look any less professional and more Pre School to High School!! So, unlike in the iPhone 4/4S era where you could pick up the 4 for 99 bucks when the 4S was king, or the 4S for that money when the 5 was on top, you now can't get the 5 anymore and have to get a 5C. Well, seeing how Apple fans always looked down on Android phones, esp. Samsung because of the plastic build, now people that don't want the latest and greatest now have to settle for the 5C instead of getting the nicer 5. I am sure they will sell off the remaining stock of the 5, at least I'd hope so. That's just a bad move on Apples part, probably their way to bolster the bottom line while giving customers more choice....in color that is. Real choice would be different size iPhones, not just the tiny screen version, but hey, I am sure they will save that for next year.

Just my opinion.

Ok, I am done ranting for now.

Samsung does just add features....and hardware upgrades, the kind that actually make a difference like a higher resolution and bigger screen while maintaining the overall size of the phone. They really did listen to their customers when it comes to the Note 3, the features they added above and beyond the stuff we got with the GS4 I find very useful. They fixed the "bar of soap" feel on hot humid days by changing the back cover to a new material, and by going for the notebook look by using the ridges on the side to mimick pages of a book they also provided more grip, together with the more squared off look. Samsung is not afraid to go back to what worked before as is evidenced by the Note 3 looking like the GS2. When I had the Epic 4G touch (Sprint version of GS2) it felt like the most solid phone I ever owned, especially with that textured back. It was only with the GS3 that I felt the need to buy a case for more grip.

So yeah, Apple may make fun of Samsung for "just adding features" but, as the sales figures and reviews show, most people seem to like what Samsung has been doing.

My brain caught two feelings from the iPhone announcement: Firstly, the fingerprint scanner will probably be good unlike on the Atrix, so I'm jealous of that. And secondly, the 64 bit A7 put a downer on my perspective of the Snapdragon 800, even if the 800 still ends up being ultimately more powerful.

A downer? How so? By the way, I loved the headlines in the media when it came to graphics processing power.... 57x more powerful.....than the original iPhone....lol. How about comparing it to the competition. I am dying to see 3d Mark Results, finally a benchmark that works across platforms. I do think the 5S will have the upper hand there though, it's always done well in the graphics department.

A downer in that the 800 is only 32 bit while there's a 64 bit processor already on the market when the Note 3 releases. The Snapdragon 800 was already more of a tock release, and this just adds to that.

64 bit with today's hardware in mobile phones is non sense. Give it a few years yet, as of now 64 bit on mobile platforms is about as useful as 64 bit was when Windows XP 64 bit came out.
