Note 4 Anybody use ultra power saving mode?

Very good idea!!!! I'll do like you when they solve all the issues about turning UPS Mode on/off.

I used it when I found myself in the ER with no way to charge my phone. I don't use it regularly though.

After using UPSM, the only thing I don't like is that I can't use Chrome. Some may think it's not a big deal. While it truly isn't that big of a deal it is annoying to not have my bookmarks and history sync with my Google account. But alas, I guess you shouldn't really worry about that if you are in UPSM.

Re: Anybody use ultra power saving mode?

Are you sure you were using "Ultra power saving mode", and not the less intense "power saving mode"?

From what ive read, ultra power saving turns the screen black and white and shuts off everything except calls and texts. Meaning you couldnt have used facebook. Its supposed to last like a day on 10% battery... not only a couple hours.

If i go to sleep and simply use flight mode, my phone stays at 100% battery, too, or at most loses 1%. I want to like UPSM but can't remove Samsung internet and Samsung messaging. I use chrome and hangouts and Facebook messenger exclusively for my comms.

Also, I've been separately testing the restrict background data function which UPSM turns on and found that messages don't show up until i actually open Hangouts and then open the specific conversation and only then does the incoming message show up. I'm guessing Samsung messenger periodically manually polls servers to update its incoming messages.

So while in UPSM , for my usage scenario, it's severely crippling to NOT be made aware that there are incoming texts waiting... It makes the phone as useful to me as just turning it off :(

Thoughts?

So I've been experimenting with simply using regular power saving with brightness all the way down. But the issue of restricted background data makes it a deal breaker and the background data issue is the biggest battery drainer (aside from screen).

Forgot to mention i use Google voice, too, so the normal Samsung phone dialer also does not work lol.. I need to be able to use hangouts dialer. Ahh, first world problems

On a side note, since the Lollipop update on Sprint, I have been getting a "phone fully charged" or something like that once the phone is done charging. Anyway to disable/stop this notification from appearing again?

Of all the very limited apps to have in UPSM, Facebook is one? How about the camera? hangouts? If I'm going for max battery, Facebook is absolutely last on my list.

I went on a 3 day camping trip and used a combination of PSM w/ greyscale and airplane mode. Did a little FB when I had wifi, and some texting when I had signal. No voice though. Got home after 72 hours with 24%, including a lot of "full use" on the 2hr drive up and back.

I would have used UPSM the whole time, except I needed text/camera and to enable/disable it takes too long.

Quick question here and I don't know if it's already been addressed (I may have missed it). It is fine to charge while in UPSM?

Well I tried it today at work. For some reason it was slow. Then again I was charging via the computer terminal at work and not directly from an electrical outlet. In the former, is that "normal" charge?

Perfectly fine to charge in UPSM, in fact I think it charges slightly quicker in this mode but maybe that's just me, would same to make sense as the most of the main power hungry things would be shut down while charging.

I use UPSM every night when I go to bed, as it saves battery usually only lose 1 or 2 % battery overnight.

Re: Anybody use ultra power saving mode?

Here's another question I have when utilizing UPSM. Does turning it on and off tax the battery all the more?

That's your problem. It uses less power than any other power save mode but being connected to the internet and using facebook will still have an effect on your power draw. Limiting to only calls and messaging is really the best use in a pinch. If I turn it on it takes a few hours to drop 1%. Sure you give up Facebook but it is well worth it knowing you can make it an entire day on 8%.
