I had issues with this with my Note 4 on ATT. They first replaced the Battery and it worked for a little while, didn't get as hot as the old battery. It definitely would get very hot though. In a very heavy duty case. To the point I couldn't hold it. This all happened first with the Lollipop update and then a few times downloading some apps. I know the phone get hot when working, but not too hot to hold.
Then suddenly I was dropping calls on ATT a couple months ago. Never happened before. In different places where I checked with them and strong signal. They were thinking the Sim card reader wasn't working correctly. After doing everything they said, sim replacement, battery replacement, and Factory Reset, the phone kept dropping calls. Never had that since I bought it back in February. So I got a Warranty replacement phone. Guess what, No more dropped calls. This phone gets hot too, but not as hot as my last one. Even the girl that worked at the ATT where I brought my Old Note 4 to transfer my apps and stuff to the Replacement Note 4 and get it activated, said it was really hot. So something was up with my original Note 4. Never found out what, but the Warranty replacement is working fine and not getting super hot. So I believe something happened after the Lollipop update and I know overheating can fry your phone. Just my experience with it. My first Certified like New Phone I ever got and working very well. I was a little worried at first. Oh and I have no idea the actual temp. it was, but my old Note 4 got too hot to hold in a casemate case and when I pulled the battery I couldn't even hold that either.
