I dont know if you guys know but it also depends on the quality of the video it was made in. Like if it says recorded in 4k it wont actually have an option to play in 4k but it will play in 2k which is actually 1440p

Android Police posted an article about a new YouTube apk. Ive tried everything in this thread and. Wouldn't get 1440 to display. I installed the apk then cleared the cache and data and 1440p was there and it looks amazing! Note (ha!): it did not show up until I cleared the cache and data. Hope this helps!

Tested.. Still doesn't work on my att note 4...

Not that its that big of a deal.. Pixels are too small to count on this screen even at 720p... :D

Yeah, I've looked at the same videos in different resolutions from 720P on up and find it well nigh impossible to perceive a difference when viewed on a Note 4 screen.

Ha ha.... 1080 & 1440 was working until the update. Ridiculous! I'll just use it in a browser. Sick of the back & forth.

That's why I didn't update mine. I read the reviews before I decide whether to do it or not. If it ain't broke...it soon will be.

It doesn't run as well in the browser unfortunately. You can probably get it back by clearing cache/app data. Seems to be hit or miss. Options for 1080p/1440p disappeared for me despite trying everything then one day randomly reappeared. Haven't updated YT since.. Can't believe Google is outright ignoring this.

Both 1080 and 1440 have vanished again for me. I went to finish watching something on Youtube which I started a few days ago and it was in 1080p, last night it was only 720p. Even 480p option has disappeared. I did not update to the latest YT app or did anything to it, must be Google...

Don't know what's gone wrong then. I used to get all the above resolutions but not any more. Looks like Google turned those options off for certain devices.

I've had the Note 4 since it first came out, through AT&T. Just searched for a timescapes 4k videos, one that is like 1 hour long, and this is the first time I have ever had the option of anything above 720p..., it wasn't 1440p, but 1080p. Happy for at least that! Something is improving!

Try the link below. You should see a 1440p option for it.
