Just for fun some upgrade math. We will be switching to the Verizon Edge program from the 2-year subsidy program with 3 new Note 4's.

So, over two years, we are looking at:

$700 x 3 = $2,100 - ($75*24 the total monthly reduction in fees from Verizon from going to the Edge program over 2 years) = $300 - (200*3 total trade in provided by Verizon and Samsung for our otherwise worthless old phones) = -$300

Add taxes and we end up coming out ahead by just about $100. I know this may be a unique case but it seems to work for us.

Are we missing anything here?

Thanks!

Math seems right. However, if you are going to use the Edge program, why wouldn't you just upgrade every year? Even if you keep it the full 20 months and pay it off, you will only be able to get easily $250 for it or trade it in again. The money you get selling it will most likely offset any subsidized pricing on a new phone. But, then you are off of Edge. Basically, if you keep getting new phones every year, you are paying about $10 a month extra for that benefit.

How did you get that 2100 figure? Also, edge has up to 25 discount, does that equal to 25 all the time?

We will have 3 lines so $25/month * 3 = $75. $700/phonce * 3 phones = $2100

Good point. It is unlikely that we will keep all 3 for 2 years which is a nice feature of Edge.

I see. I heard the discount is $25 for >10G data plan, $10 for <10 G data plan.

Either way, you may want to simulate the purchase process either online or in store and see how much it eventually will be.
