Note 4 vs Nexus 6

These are so hilarious... You guys are arguing over which is better..... It's like arguing over who is really faster between the 1st and 2nd place finishers in the 100 Meter Dash at the Olympics....... The differences between these two devices is no different than the fraction of a second difference between a Gold and Silver medal...... and that is pretty much ever single feature you put in a head to head race between these two phones..... and some times the guy who wins Gold at this Olympics only gets the Silver in another race later in the year....

I'm not arguing, just trying to have fun talking about phones, sometimes people can take the fun out of it though.

Yeah I wasn't pointing to anyone particular.. I am just talking about how long this thread is and how much back and forth has gone on.... The extreme Note 4 and extreme Nexus 6 are pure agenda based comments and arguments... Both are super fine devices..

The nit picking is pure agenda based favoritism.... for example... Frame each phone's screen and play the same video at the same time side by side and ask 100 random people off the street which looks better and you'll end up falling somewhere really close to 50/50..... Some people act like your comparing a qHD screen to an old Sony Trinitron TV from the 1990's.....

Neither phone is head and shoulders better than the other... whichever phone is better is almost entirely opinion based and user specific....

I'm not sure what is meant here by "build quality." To me, it sounds more of a preference in build materials while quality would be how solid the construction is and if there are any issues on the initial build process. Nexus letters falling off, the idiotic controversy of low light pink hue display. Recessed physical buttons. Yellowish display. "Gapgate." To me, those are characteristics of build quality. Maybe I'm arguing semantics here.

There are aspects of both devices I appreciate. I prefer using my Note 4 for work while I enjoy using my Nexus 6 and OnePlus One off work. There is no overall best device between these two and you can't really go wrong with either as long as you buy the one that suits your preferences(which have been already discussed to death). I'm glad Android users have a choice of the kind of big screen smartphone experience they want unlike that other big screen phone that's extremely popular.

My letters are still in place and show no signs of falling off... the low pink hue only occurs when you turn the brightness down to basically zero.. first I've seen or heard of any recessed physical buttons... I have not noticed any yellowish display and first time I'm hearing of Gapgate?

If they make 100 devices and 98 are perfect with no issues you'll rarely hear a peep out of those 98 people... but the 2 with problems are going to grip and scream making the issue seem bigger than it really is.. Shouldn't be ignored but still Happy people rarely say anything... unhappy people will be way more vocal (and rightfully so) So if they say shipped 250,000 devices and 5,000 have issues those 5,000 people are going to do ten times more talking than the 245,000 with great devices....

There are several comparisons. Some favor the note other the nexus 6.

Honestly, this thread has diluted into small, biased arguments and claims.

Both are great phones. Pick what you want and leave it at that.

But that's the point of it. Everyone has their own bias and point of view. It's those differing opinions that could make a person choose one way or the other.

Yes.

I am referring to the hostile and somewhat insulting replies.

These threads are useful, it an ideal world.

90% of this thread is agenda based propaganda for the device that person favors and in some cases I think people just talk junk to rile others up..

If you want a true comparison of the two don't watch the comparison video's or write ups as they can be bias based too... Read a bunch of Note 4 reviews and read a bunch of Nexus 6 reviews.... Take everything in each review with a grain of salt as it may or may not relate to your real world go into a T-Mobile store (as they seem to be the only option of a Nexus 6 display) and hold each device and play around with it for a few minutes each and make a decision...

Personally you can't really go wrong one way or the other... They are both fantastic devices and any advantage one has over the other is minimal at best and as you can see from reading all these post very subjective depending on who you talk or listen to...

Except the speakers, the 6 is far more than minimally better.

I know all that. I was just listing examples of known build quality issues from several Android phones and tables this year.

People complain about cheap plastic but to me it's not the materials it's how they're constructed. The Galaxy S4 construction feels cheap for the price it sold for at launch while the Nexus 5 feels and looks more expensive than it's price in my opinion. The G3 is another device that looks and feels great despite being plastic.

If people are really on the fence on what device to get they should try to buy both devices if possible. Several stores like Best Buy, Amazon and even GPS are offering holiday returns which means you can return items sometime in January for purchases made now. Unfortunately, Motorola does not do this as far as I know. I convinced a friend to do this and he have both phones to play with and plenty of time to make a decision next year.

If I were interested in the Nexus 6, the one thing that I would be concerned with would be the availability of it. You can only get the white or the 64 GB version online as far as I know. If I'm wrong please correct me. Best Buy isn't carrying it. I have only seen it on display at a T-Mobile store. And it is sporadically available online. As soon as there is word that the Google Play store or Motorola has stock, it is gone. And now I'm reading that carrier versions may not get the speedy updates directly from Google. It will have to pass through the carriers first.

Note in my house!

I currently have an S3 and am going back and forth between a Note 4 and Nexus 6 right now.

I've tried out both in stores and have to say that I am completely tossed up. The Note 4's build quality is amazing-the metal makes such a difference and it feels like a solid, durable phone. The Nexus 6 looks nice but doesn't feel as solid, perhaps because it does not lay flat on surfaces and because its width makes it feel gargantuan.

But, on the software front, I am leaning towards the N6. I don't mind TouchWiz, barring some software inconsistencies, but I just feel for something different. I don't think TouchWiz is ugly and I'm actually impressed by how it looks with Lollipop underneath, but I also like the look and feel of stock Lollipop.

I don't think this is going to be an easy decision but I'm happy I have the decision. Two years ago, the Galaxy S3 was the only Android phone in the US worth buying. Today there are so many options.

Stop sniffing the glue about the Note feeling more solid; the Nexus 6 is a very solid feeling phone, and looks way better than the Note visual wise. That little thin aluminum bezel around the Note is also a Joke with its crap fake leather back. I think all around the Note software suite offers more with a brighter, and barely higher pixel dense screen which can't be discerned by the human eye, and has a 53 minute loger battery life, but outside of that it is all Nexus 6. "If" you like a stylus, and all the things that make a phone a real phablet the Note is it. If it doesn't matter about a stylus, and you like screen size and great speakers it is the Nexus 6. The Nexus 6 is an excellent Multimedia phablet minus a stylus. It is well built, and claimed to be one of the most solid phones by every review but yours. I think the Note is more feature rich, and sets the mark about what a phablet should be, but the Nexus 6 is close behind and the front facing speakers, and cellular signal capability took me to the Nexus 6. This is the most well built ergonomic phone that I have ever held period! You have a right to your opinion, an I am not knocking it I just challenge the facts of how you arrived at that opinion.

That said it is a matter of preference period. Factually my battery has lasted now over 24 hours with 2 hours of screen time maximum brightness, and I have adaptive brightness turned off. I talked for about an hour and surfed the web for close to 2 hours. I have cloud print turned off, I stream music from music stored on the device, I turned off NFC, and wifi search. Some say that you should not have to do this, but I had to do this with my Nexus 5 and it would only last half a day with this kind of use. Oh, and by the way I fell asleep with it under my pillow and had 45% cell signal loss and with the N5 that would have killed the battery.

If you liked the Nexus 5 and can deal with the size this blows it away......period.

Ultimately the Note was my 1st choice but the Nexus won me over. I looked at the G3, and the 6+ with an open mind, and played with the Note 4 for weeks. The Note 4 was my 1st choice until Igot my Nexus. I remember when the N5 launced and every review said the screeen sucked but with it in my hand I knew better, and when I turned the screen brightness down saw a gorgeous display. Soon realizng the sreen brightness was set too high reviews all said that it was the most accurate screen to date, and still is besting iPhone in accuracy.

Size wise the Nexus is marginally wider that the Note and the iPhone 6+. The 6+ wide bezel on the top and bottom and home button looked unapealing to me of all of the phones that I saw. Software wise it is just an app storage device and that is it. Too plain and simple to me. It had a nice screen, but after that I was bored. The Note was great at everything and had a stylus, and if it would have had all of the cellular signal's that the Nexus 6 had I would have taken it.

Front facing dual speakers, antenna signal bands, and a large screen appealed more to me than the sharper camera, brighter screen, pixel density, and stylus. The 53 official minutes that the Note 4 has over the Nexus 6 is moot since all that I really need is 12 hours and in real life I have now gotten over 24 hours with 35% listed as 13 more hours battery time.

Make realisitic statements, and not biased claims to help other make the right
choice!

I had a Note 2. Now I have a Nexus 6. My father has the Note 4. At Thanksgiving we were comparing phones. My son and I were laughing at my Dad's Note 4 because it lags so bad compared to the Nexus. My brother started to feel bad for my dad and told us to back off. If you need the Stylus, get a Note 4. If you want a faster performing phone, the Nexus is much better. The Note 4's performance is laughable, literally....

With the wild inaccurate statements that continue in regards to Note 4 and Nexus 6 comparisons I am beginning to think that Samsung is running scared and paying plants to promote the Note 4 in the Nexus 6 forum.

The Note 4 is a great phablet no question especially if you use the S pen.

But that fake "pleather" makes it look ridiculous and cheap. The Nexus 6 is built like a tank with Motorola build quality and cell radios.

Bring in the additional 9.8% screen area in approximately same size along with the awesome stereo speakers versus small tiny mono speaker on back of the Note 4 and the Nexus 6 is a Note 4 killer (if you don't care about the S pen).

One review i saw says if the Nexus 6 is a large phone while the Note 4 is like a small tablet. Seems accurate. As far as the back on the Note 4 looking ridiculous and cheap, that is personal preference. The back is fine to me and not a fingerprint magnet. Plus with a case on it won't be a concern.

I wanted to like the Nexus 6 but the battery was a deal breaker. Dealt with average battery on the Nexus 5 as well as a couple of annoying battery drain bugs. I can get over 48 hours of a single charge with 4-5 hours screen on time on the Note 4.

Do you not see you own subjectivity?

Look/design is entirely in the eye of the beholder... I couldn't publicly knock any device for it's look... I can say it's not for me but I couldn't say something looks bad or cheap.. because to someone else it looks great and feels premium... I like the Nexus 6 but I bought 5 different cases to test out just to minimize wear on the device...

The Nexus 5 was pretty bad even new out the box for battery.... 10 hours with 2 hours screen on was about maxed out.... if you were lucky... if you can pull 48+ and 4 - 5 screen on with the Note 4 that is shockingly good.. I've not seen anyone posting 48+ and 4+ screen on with the Note 4.... Pretty much every battery drain test I've seen has the Note 4 lasting about 45 minutes longer than the Nexus 6.... I can go 17 hours on average with between 3 - 4 screen on... If I throw it into battery save mode while at work I can easily go past 24 hours on a single charge.... On a super heavy Saturday I went 12 with 5 hours screen on...

Now I usually charge when I first get to work in the morning since I know I have 2 - 3 hours of nonstop work to do... and then after lunch I usually charger for at least 2 hours before leaving at 4:00... At 4 I usually leave work at or near 100% remaining and by bed time (11 pm usually) I still have 30+% remaining with about 4+ hours screen on.... I just don't get the need for 48 hours of battery life (yes by now you'd think battery life should be a lot better) even if you are super busy and travel nonstop you have to settle down for at least a few hours to sleep, eat or shower (or at least hopefully) and with the included turbo charger on both devices you can go 0 - 100 in about 90 minutes....
