Note 4 vs Nexus 6

Nexus is all about the software. We all know the Note wins in terms of hardware. Battery life the Note is better.

Software on the Note is a big deal too. I would say even more so than the Nexus.

Nothing but Note! A little rim, some backboard, but mostly Note!

I'm talking in relation to pure android. Lollipop with TW laid over will never come close to what it should. Not saying that's a bad thing, some like the additions Samsung UI offers.

That's not what I'm saying. From a features perspective, stock Android is behind Touch Wiz. I know people will have a tough time with that assessment, but Touch Wiz is beyond stock Android as it relates to features. So on the software side, out of the box, you get more with Touch Wiz. And then there is the hardware side, which you get more with the Note 4 as well.

Features are relative.

After 2 Nexus phones and a Nexus tablet, plus running an AOSP rom on my Inspire 4G I don't see myself ever wanting to deal with an OEM interface again.

Only when considering what you want to use. But everything thr Nexus can do from a features perspective can be done on the Note 4. The same cannot be said the other way around. Don't get me wrong, the Nexus 6 is a great device. But it doesn't match in hardware or software when compared to the Note 4.

I think people will still complain if for example the nexus interface in it pure state was from another OEM and not Google about how terrible the interface is. I believe the impression some people still have is that the UI from OEM are terrible even though that's no longer true.

I am starting to think the deciding factor between getting a Nexus and another device is the availability.

I'm not in the place to be paying 700+ for a phone currently so I'm stuck with AT&T. And I'm entirely sick of waiting for this phone. And sick of no-one knowing a darn thing about it at any store.

I applied for Moto credit, got a page about waiting 10 days, and thought that was that. It's been 18 days and when I tried to "reapply" the website doesn't work. Just over this...

If using the S pen is important to you get a Note; if having a bigger screen, much better build quality, Motorola cell radios, ambient display with cooler notifications, "Google on" feature with screen off, and great sounding stereo features is more important to you get a Nexus 6.

Battery life and camera quality is slightly better on Note 4 but not enough to matter.

Touchwiz is not bad and Note 4 will get L. next month...

This is the second time I have read that the Nexus 6 has a better build than the Note 4. Can you or someone explain this? I'm not seeing that at all.

I have the Note 4 and the Nexus 6. I feel that the Note is a better all around device even though I don't really care for Touchwiz. It's better than it was but that's not saying a whole lot. The Nexus 6 is a very nice device but hard to hold on to without a case. I have a Spigen case coming from Amazon tomorrow so that may help make it easier to hold onto. The Note's screen is quite a bit better than the Nexus. The Nexus' screen has a yellowish tone which may be due to it being an early production device and because I have the Note that I can look at both of them at the same time. I may not have noticed if I hadn't started using the Note before I received the Nexus. The front facing speakers on the Nexus are really good but not quite as good as the M8. I think you'll be happy with either device because they both are high end phones and they are the top phones out right now.

None are so blind than those who refuse to see. Check out the fit and finish on both - there are gaps on most Note 4s.

Hold both of them in your hands - both the iPhone 6 and Nexus 6 blow the Note 4 out of the water on build quality. The Note 4 looks ridiculous with that cheap fake leather back and glossy plastic front!

What is with this misconception that the Nexus 6 is the only phone that can do "OK Google" from the lock screen? I'm using the Note 4 right now and can do that as well. Here's a screenshot of the settings page for anyone that doubts me.

What plastic front are you referring to? What gaps? I don't understand. And I really would bring the iPhone 6 into the equation when talking about build quality.

The Nexus 6 will launch "OK Google" without touching it while the screen is off by always listening for your voice!

Motorola build quality -> BMW
Samsung build quality -> Kia

Written from the mighty pen of my Note 2!

Build quality is subjective. Both are rock solid.

N6's most obvious advantage is software. Pure Android L is a huge advantage that the N6 will always have over the Note 4. And of course the front facing speakers are nice on the N6.

But it's pretty obvious that the Note 4 has advantages in display, camera, battery life. Because of this, I decided to keep my Note 4 and sell my N6. Don't get me wrong, I still feel the N6 is a great device and definitely understand why people would buy it.

Great points.

Wow, your hatred of Samsung is almost comical. Relax, we're talking about phones.
