Note 5 or 6P

There are good qualities in both spec sheets. Just wait until the 6P is out. Sounds like you're pretty indecisive, but just be patient. Things will start to show more in the next couple of weeks as review unit videos come out.

I don't work for either company so no need to convince you.

Convince me to choose the Nexus :)

IMHO: If you like a phone with a sPen, too much bloat, and a great camera according to experts, then you might want the Samsung Note 5. If you want t a pure Android experience, no bloat, and a pretty good camera according to some that have tested this (search this forum), then you might want the Nexus 6P... oh ya, and you will get the latest updates to Android very quickly, much quicker than you will get them from Samsung.

Between the 2, you're getting very similar phones with very similar hardware specs (minus the s-pen on the Nexus).

The biggest, largest, hugest difference between the two is full Software and Carrier independence on the Nexus. You'll get pure/vanilla Android which you can enhance any way you like (via apps if needed), and the fastest software update cycles versus waiting for the typical chain.

Samsung Phone's (or any other OEM) software chain: Google-->Phone OEM-->Carrier-->User.

With a Nexus it's: Google-->User. Priceless!

Pros
Note 5-carrier sold (discounts and such), s-pen, completely locked down (enterprise IT likes to see that)
Nexus 6P-stock Google, bugger screen, updates without carrier/manufacture bloat

I have the Note 5, and the things I think really separate it from the Nexus 6p are wireless charging and the S Pen. Until we get our hands on the Nexus, we won't really know if the camera, battery, and screen are better than the Note 5. Build quality on both seem great. The Nexus is definitely priced better, not to mention the pure Android experience and fast updates. Wait until you can compare both in person before you make a decision.

What do you think?

I was ready to get the Note 5. I actually ordered a case ahead of the release! I had a Note 3, but needing a reliable GPS, it was flaky so I had to trade it in. The GPS on the Note 5 is still flaky. In reading the Note 5 forum, be prepared to have to change/turn off a bunch of settings to increase battery life. There are other issues, but go through the Note 5 forum.

Good luck!

I was going to stay out of this, but hey it's all fun while we're waiting.

The past couple of releases the Note has always been compared to the Nexus phones, but I really think they are two totally different phones. I have had both because I'm a phone & tech geek, but for the average person it would depend on what you want out of a phone.

The Note series IMO is more of an all-in-one productivity type of phone. If you don't have a tablet and it's your sole device, having the split screen is nice. The S-pen is really nice for taking notes, help creating contacts and a bunch of other stuff. This is the phone I really would have loved to have when I was running my side business. The camera is also really nice. Samsung has done a lot with Touchwiz to make it appeal to the average customer, and I actually like some of those things. Between the two I would probably recommend the Note 5 for the average person.

The Nexus is a really good phone for media consumption and all the Google services. If you really utilize Google like I do, it's a far superior experience vs. the Note IMO. When I say utilize it, I mean use it for Gmail, Google plus Youtube, Google play, docs, pictures, and Play music & movies. A lot of Google stuff is in the cloud, and the Nexus phones from my experience work better for this purpose.

The Note can do all the Google stuff, but Samsung tries to push their own software and apps so the experience is not as clean or smooth. My Note 5 is periodically downloading & updating Samsung apps , most of which I never use. The Note 5 has it's own music app which I never use, as well as the video player.

Since the Nexus has been updated, battery life is pretty even IMO, and I'm saying this from my experience with the Nexus 6 and Note 5 since the 6P isn't out yet. I will miss wirless charging that the Note 5 has, but having a USB-C port helps alleviate that. I have a Chromebook Pixel and it's really nice to just snap it in with the USC-C and it charges very fast.

All in all I prefer the Nexus for the reasons mentioned above, the nicer build quality, fingerprint scanner, and running Android 6.0 stock in the 6P, it's the better phone for me.

Long post, I know, but that's what I think about the two phones.

I am a little concerned about the size. The note 5 is smaller and it has hardware buttons. The 6P has a pretty big gap under the screen and software buttons. Wouldn't the note 5s screen be bigger because it haven't software buttons? (Never used software buttons, so I don't know anything about them :p)
