Phone history this year: Nexus 6, G4, S6, One M9, and Note 5. So I received my 6p today. Got it set up and have been using it all day (12 hours now). It is a very satisfying experience. The decrease in width makes it less wieldy than the Nexus 6.
My pros:
- Love the USB C. I've already plugged it in without hesitation of looking or feeling for the right side up. Small thing but noticeable.
- Fluidity of stock Android. Not much more to say than this. It is super smooth.
- Settings Menu/ enjoy the look and feel of the settings in stock
- Fingerprint Scanner- works perfectly and quick each time.
- Can't ever go wrong with front facing speakers.
- Finally able to get rid of the peek option from notifications!!!
- Haptic feedback/ vibration motor is perfect.
Cons
- No separation of sound from notifications and ringtones.
- No true split screen multi tasking.
- Can't resize the stock Google keyboard. I know there are others but I like stock. It just feels higher compared to the Note 5.
- Fingerprint scanner on the back- this make take some adjustment. It is fast but I think I like it on the front.
- No aural notification from texts while on a call. May be small to some but I like this feature on the G4 and Note 5.
Overall, it is a great phone. I truly believe that a person like me (and many of you) may nitpick more than the average person due to the amount of phones we use over a year. It most certainly has a better camera. The build is excellent. Since this thread is about the comparison/ contrast to the Note 5, I think I like the Note 5 in a 10-8 round. This doesn't take anything away from the 6p. I just happen to like the Note 5 just a bit better. Others complain about touchwiz and its bevy of features; I see them as an added value proposition. Whether you use them or not, there is value knowing that it is there when the time arises. Unfortunately, I had a family member that required directions ( I know) and didn't know how I was going to quickly give the directions. It dawned on me to use the scroll capture on the Note 5 and it worked flawlessly. Things like this make the Note 5 stand out to me. I'll keep my 6p and sell my G4 to keep my current phone count to 2. Ha ha. I wish the Note 5 had the vibration of the 6p. I find typing more fluid on the 6p. The keyboard hasn't lagged when speed typing. The Note 5 (and every Samsung and LG device I've owned) always have a moment of lag when typing. It is so annoying! Let's see... the Note 5 just feels even better in the hand. It is less narrow and shorter than the 6p, too. The Note 5 seems to be the perfect big phone for me. I always have to have a Nexus device on hand for my OS updates. It'll be nice if Samsung can incorporate Marshmallow features without borking the system. The option to turn off the peek option for notifications is a huge win for me. Anyway, I hope this was beneficial to someone. I love both phones and will use both for some time to come.
