Note 5 vs iPhone 6s

Re: iphone vs note 5

What are you guys thoughts around a note 5 vs iphone? What would be missing if I went to a note 5 from an iPhone or what would I be gaining

If you are like most of the regular iphone users, you'll miss iMessage and maybe FaceTime, but you will gain tons of new features that won't be on iPhone for a long time, if ever:

1-) Real Widgets on Screen not Notifications
2-) Multi-Windows
3-) Real Multi-tasking (even with the too aggressive Samsung approach on this right now)
4-) Real NFC capabilities
5-) The uniqueness of the S pen and it's ton of features and usage
6-) Exclusive Samsung Pay to use in basically over 95% of point of sales (with magnetic strip readers),
7-) Tons of customizations with the themes and Android customs in general. Lots of launchers to choose from with hundreds of themes and icons packs.
8-) The best Display in any phone right now, 5.7" of pure sexiness (Quad HD)
9-) The best camera right now, just challenged by LG G4 in low light scenarios, Recording 4K videos and even RAW support for pictures.
10-) S Health and the dozens of very useful health related features, barely talked about it, but one of the best Samsung exclusive apps or features right now.
11-) Google integration in all the core apps. Including Hangouts so you can use some Video conference AKA FaceTime.
12-) Better and more complete Bluetooth connections and features.
13-) Not being an iTunes Slave.

This are just a few of what I could think of really quick, but I'm sure that you will get a lot more in following posts.

Wow thanks for the in depth details. I really am going to miss imessage and FaceTime and I also heard that sending videos and photos on a non imessage device lowers your quality? Is the re anyway around that issue?

Re: iphone vs note 5

You can upload to YouTube or Google Photos and share a link. It's possible Hangouts or other apps will also allow you to just send videos without any compression, but everyone has to agree to use Hangouts, which can be a tough sell with the iCrowd!

For what it's worth, I will likely be making the same jump myself. I'm a longtime Android fan surrounded by iPhone users so once every couple years I seem to jump over. But I miss the customization and functionality, especially in the Note series, and the 5 looks to be a real beast!

The note 5 is an animal. It's so fast and the screen is crazy amazing

Re: iphone vs note 5

I switched from the ip6 and my wife did from the ip6+. We have no regrets and won't go back to Apple. Phone is faster than the iPhone and we like the open and custom capability. Our car has wireless charging so we just throw it on the center console. Also we didn't like iTunes and apple music sucks.

Re: iphone vs note 5

Came from the iPhone 6+ and so far I'm impressed with N5.

One thing I cannot get is the same battery life I got from my iPhone. I was getting 13-15 hours in iPhone with heavy use. I'm getting 9-11 under same usage patterns with N5.

I believe that that iPhone has superior cell radios and therfore from my home which doesn't get the best reception I had no issues but with Note 5 it's typically bouncing between 4 and 3g and sometimes less.

Screen is better, camera is better, and I like Google due to fact my company uses Google Apps for business so integration is better.

I love Google Now vs Siri which destroys the iPhone in that respect. Music is about the same so I don't think that's a big deal.

imessage is definitely a bummer to lose because my entire family is on iPhone but outside of that and fact sending photos isn't try greatest since iPhone downscales the photos for some reason I love being back on Android.

Verizon SUCKS though because they are holding off on Samsung pay which I really wanted and will miss passbook feature from iPhone.

T-mobile rep advised me against the Note 5

So I went into a T-mobile store today because I was considering using my Jump on Demand to get the Note 5. I currently have an iPhone 6. I talked to my rep I always deal with whenever I go in that store because I find he is the most knowledgeable. We're on a first name basis I've dealt with him so many times. After the rep told me how much more a month the Note 5 payments were going to be ($29 compared to the $17 a month im paying now for the iPhone) and a few other details I wasnt sure if I was ready to jump. He asked if I had any issues with my iPhone I said no I just wanted to try something different he told me I should stick with my iPhone. He said most of Galaxy phones, specifically the S6 and Note 5 people have complained about. He said about 1 out of 3 Galaxy phones sold have been returned or exchanged for one reason or another. He didnt give any specific reasons. He said if i really wanted it of course he would do it but in "his opinion" the Samsung phones seem to have alot more issues than iPhones. So I didnt get the phone...yet. I still might but he definitely gave me something to think about.

I work at T-mobile and haven't seen anyone return a note 5 or s6 edge+. Have seen a few returns of the s6 edge(mainly because people wanted the gold platinum version). The iPhone on the other hand I have seen a good amount. Especially when the 6 came out lots of complaints about freezing and dropped calls. Not as much now, but a considerable amount.

I guess every store is different because he told me the exact opposite.

Re: T-mobile rep advised me against the Note 5

First of all, the Note 5 is $25, not $29 on JOD. Sounds like you're need a more informed rep. Sounds like an Apple fan boy to me. I've said this before...do your research and get the phone you want. Don't let anyone in a store change your mind.

It all depends what you are looking for. Based on what you told him he may have had your best interest in mind. However, I will tell you right now that I have both an I phone 6 sitting on my desk and a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 for two weeks and The Note 5 is the absolute real deal. I have not had one issue. There are always going to be issues with change and adapting to new technology. The problem with alot of iPhone users is that they give up too soon with android and stick with the status quo rather than diving in. I guarantee the most who return are from the iPhone side because they cannot adapt to the learning curve. Don't let someone put you in that bubble. I jumped ship officially a couple of years ago rom apple to the Note series as a personal phone. I am fortunate that I still get to use iPhones for work so that I can keep up with what's going on that side of town. However, it's been stagnant in Apple town for forever. There has never been a better time to try a Note series because ( and i hate to say this) its more i phone fan friendly than its ever been. Give it a spin and judge for yourself. You can always take it back. This is the best phone I've owned. I thought the Note 4 WAS but not anymore.

Re: T-mobile rep advised me against the Note 5

You should seriously go to a different store and ask them the same question. Your salesperson isn't being completely truthful to you.

There is no comparison between the two devices and the Note 5 is far superior to the iPhone 6 in every way including battery life.

I definitely agree with you about the learning curve and I admit i was guilty of that. I got the S6 on launch day and while it was a good phone (besides battery life) I was constantly comparing it to my iPhone. Instead of jumping in all the way I still had my iPhone and would switch up every other day until I eventually gave up on the S6 all together. I think im ready to give it a full try now, 100% all in, and I have JoD so if worse comes to worse down the line i can always jump back to iOS but at least I can say i gave it a try.

Really? He told me $29 for the Note 5 and $24 for the S6. I'm going to try to another store tomorrow and see what they say.

But what would he have to gain by talking me out of the Note 5? Maybe in his particular store he really has experienced more Samsung returns than Apple.

Re: iphone vs note 5

Only thing I missed was imessage coming from the iPhone 6. It was in the past very fast after about 4 days with the Note 5. There are just way too many advantages with the Note 5. Totally obsessed with this phone and almost 2 weeks old now

Re: iphone vs note 5

Now go ask this same question on a Apple forum and you'll get the exact opposite response. I think it's just personal preference this coming from a Ex Note 4 user that went from great phone to terrible after the 5.01 Lollipop. I now own a S6 Edge Plus that I love and could never go back to an Iphone.
