Note 5 vs iPhone 6s

Re: Should I get the iPhone 6s Plus or Note 5?

Excellent post.

I say this as well... I honestly have never understood anyone complaining about having to tweak a Android phone except for those who prefer to use a iPhone.

If they feel that they shouldn't have to change anything and use it as it comes from the box, they really should consider staying with a locked os phone like the iPhone or a Windows phone.

Android is about having control ( for the most part) just as jailbreaking is for the iPhone.

Funny thing is folks who complain never try to improve the experience or performance for 1 reason or another and just complain about it.

So people trying to "save" battery life should turn off WiFi even tho they need that to protect them from data overage?

Just asking a general question. But it's cool to tweak things but not the stuff that takes away from experiencing your $800 phone.

Do you use wifi 24-7? The vast majority of the people don't. If you don't need it, turn it off till you do. I have certain things shut off or disabled and none of these things are taking away from my enjoyment of this phone and probably wouldn't for you.

I am not going to have my phone constantly searching for a wifi Hotspot nor am I trying to use my phone as one. There are plenty of inexpensive alternatives to use to stream music or videos on that don't use cell data.

Re: iPhone 6s plus or note 5

A big mistake people make with Android is confusing true customization with just making pretty home screens when it means so much more than that. You can do hundreds of things with Android that an iPhone will never do. The capability Android gives 3rd party developers to customize not how you make your homescreen look but how you use your phone on Android OS is the secret sauce. And you don't need instant OS updates to do that. I could make a huge list of these things you can do on an Android device that an iPhone will never be able to do and perhaps someday I will.

Capability comes at a cost. You're not going to get an Android phone that works quite as smoothly as an iPhone but the question is, for the big gulf in capabilities between the two do you really friggin' care that much? Well therein lies the rub - if all you do is social network and surf and other light casual tasks, well then maybe you do! But if you really want power at your fingertips for much more than that, it's a different story altogether now isn't it. That's what you have to decide for yourself. There are high quality Android phones out there that are extremely well made and optimized. It's those who make wrong purchasing choices for ones that aren't who come away with a bitter taste in their mouths.

I say this as someone who uses Android as a daily driver but also has family members in house with Apple devices. I know firsthand their iPhones run smoother and more reliably than my phones have year after year. Without question! But my phone runs circles around those for the things I do. Can I use Kodi on an unbroken iPhone? Hell no. File operations? Limitless app interoperability? Apps like Link bubble/Flynx? Torrents? as for automation, Siri is still not only a pale comparison to Google Now integration, even MS's Cortana surpasses it. bear in mind I'm only naming the tip of the iceberg...

Instant updates on iOS basically give you a tenth (being generous) of the things you can do on Android waiting 4-5 months for a core OS update, and that's thanks to the nature of Android OS and the ability for 3rd party developers to create things with it. Not to mention most of the core capabilities of Android have been moved to Play Services where they can be updated notwithstanding OS version.

I use to think you were an iPhone fanboy lol, now I see your just a well informed consumer who knows both Android and iOS and can give a far deeper explanation of the intricacies in both systems in great detail. Great post! Well played my friend! Well played!

I can see where you might get that because I'm a harsh critic of tech in general, whether it be Android, iOS, or WP. I've often taken turns harshly criticizing what I feel are shortcomings on all 3. Not because I want to troll or bash, but because I'm a tech enthusiast and sometimes get frustrated about areas I think need obvious improvement. Thank you for seeing this! Tech changes rapidly! I was recently accused on another site of having a "multiple personality disorder" simply for adjusting my point of view
to keep pace with recent changes. Of course that flame and others like it still stand, ignored by staff. The report system there is mostly there for show.

I will say one thing (or repeat it would be more accurate),

I'll never again agree with the often repeated phrase, "android fanboys can be just as bad as Apple fanboys". No. Not even close. As someone who frequents the forums of numerous OS's - not just Mobile Nations, but also XDA, Phandroid, MacRumours etc - this type of discussion does not take place in nearly a civil and intelligent manner on Apple fan forums as it does here. iMore comes specifically to mind as basically a free for all where iPhone forum regulars lashing out out indiscriminately at anyone who dares utter any criticism is mostly ignored and condoned by their admins who don't even make the effort to pretend to enforce PUPPAH. I would formerly say the same for WPC but under their new lead admin that kind of behavior doesn't appear to be tolerated like it used to (the last guy would participate in it believe it or not). Conversely, AC, Phandroid, and XDA have always in my experience dealt pretty even handedly with blatant shenanigans regardless of what OS you vocally prefer. Sorry for the speech but your post just happened to arrive at a time I was really noticing this discrepancy. Hope you're reading this Mr. Falconer, some of your peeps aren't doing a very sterling job outside of AC and WPC...

I was just saying in general. I use common sense with my phone as well. Like I said tho, u shouldn't have to worry about compromising 80 percent of your phone to enjoy.

Just my 2 cents. I went from a Galaxy S4 to an iPhone 6 plus. This year I was looking at Note 5 but I was disappointed. Not for the quality of the phone but the fact that Samsung removed what I considered what was one of their most compelling features the removable battery.

I could live without the Micro SD slot, but the removable battery was a competitive advantage. The idea of lugging around a battery pack or using a battery case is a turn off for me. If I were to go back to an android phone, that would be one of the deal sealers. Now I am going to wait and see what the G5 has to offer since LG has still allowed for a removable battery.

Why are so many consumers fixated on the 'removable battery'? Apple in particular, have never offered this, and MILLIONS, if not BILLIONS of users survive with their devices.

I'd refuse to 'walk around' with an additional battery...

Imo, because Samsung and all other makers never market the swappable battery as a bonus feature. Had they done, more consumers would see the convenience of it. Mainstream consumers only know what are fed to them.

I've had numerous phones with swappable batteries. Sure it was nice if I was running out the door and I tossed a new battery in, but I refused to carry one around. I still don't see how it's THAT convenient.

I was the same way, had the Note 1, 2, and 3. I didn't really appreciate the convenience of the swappable battery until I joined the Note 4 forum here. Ever since the Note 4, I have NEVER had to charge my Note 4 in the day, EVER. The extra battery is not like a huge brick I lug around everyday, it's super thin, fits in my right pocket when I am on the road 8 hours straight, otherwise it stays in my office, car or at home when needed. It means freedom and peace of mind for me.

With the Note 5 I had for 2 weeks and other non-removable battery phones, I had to constantly look at the Status Bar for the battery percentage. There's a reason why makers put the battery status in the Status Bar, consumers are always looking, and therefore charging their phones. What's the point of having an awesome phone when we're constantly needing to worry about charging it than to appreciate all the features it comes with?

Right when you leave your house, wouldn't it be super convenient to spend 30 seconds to be 100% again than to be tethered to a charger for 30+ minutes?

Hmm, I get where you're coming from, but, disagree. Technology has been moving to the cloud for years now. Thus providing memory card slots, and removable batteries are becoming a thing of the past. One has to learn to better 'manage' their battery life. Consumers are asking for bigger screens, faster processing power, 4k, lighter devices (not a brick), etc. yet they still want the battery to last for days. Really...

I would agree with you, but battery life technology has remained stagnant when everything else in mobile has advanced. A solution, imo, is to include a bigger battery to meet the higher demand or keep the swappable feature. Samsung has 2 flagship phones. I can understand the all metal/glass S series with nonremovable back, but leave the Note series alone for power users, or put a bigger battery...they went the other way with a smaller battery. 😡

I don't see needing to charge your phone in the day or making consessions to phone features a way of managing battery life better.

No one is asking for smartphones to last for days like feature phones, just until bedtime, daily.

Samsung had actually marketed the removable battery as an advantage over the iPhone, until they took it out. Cloud storage would be better if the majority of the users were on an unlimited data plan but the carriers have pushed that away.

Physical storage is actually consumer issue pushed by an industry that doesn't want to give users a 32gb base phone. Especially as the operating systems have gotten bigger and more complicated as a result of new features.

All I was saying was here is something the iPhone never has had. Regardless of how much money Apple makes, if you are looking at one thing that is a distinct advantage, it was a removable battery and sd slot.

I get the offer a 'bigger' more powerful battery. BUT, then you have to consider the weight of the device. My Glock already weighs my jeans down, I don't want my smartphone to do the same :)

Ha, I agree with you. I suspect though most consumers wouldn't mind the Note 5 to be a tad thicker and heavier with a 4000 mah battery.

The Wall Huggers commercials. In this one the person changes the battery and is asked about it.

Ah, thanks. I do remember that funny commercial. It was very effective, but failed to highlight the swappable battery feature, the Ultra Power Saving Mode was more of the highlight. "Are you changing your battery?" was too vague. Perhaps a commercial like how they highlight the SPen is more effective, imo.

Honestly lol I would tell my rep to go drool
Oh my rep tells me att isn't offering 100$ for new line DUH a 100$ OFF my BILL for a new line! What didn't he understand!? He made me mad I'm going someplace else
I had JUST gotten the email! He didn't believe me he was IMO TRYING to screw me out of it! Not a doubt in my mind.If u was there u would believe me honestly.
I should report him it wasn't an att store it was an att resale store whatever.

Android is not sluggish anymore.
It's up to par w iPhone and the note 5 is an excellent phone.
I'm torn between keeping this phone changing to note 5... Back n forth
Doubt I'll grab the 6s Plus BUT haven't seen it yet lol
All are great you won't go wrong
Only thing I despise are carrier bloat and apple don't have them but it's own bloat and Samsung their own too and carrier lol
If u like to change wallpaper icons and more fun use android (that's me)
If you like simplicity get an iPhone... It's reliable simple . That's it
