Hi,

New to this forum. What is the output file that is produced by the camera on the phone? Is it a simple jpeg? Is there a RAW file available also?

I will have to copy the images to my laptop and work on them with 3rd party software. I want to know if I need any additional software.

Many thanks in advance,

Mike

Nope I'm not a photo expert. I just stick with the standard jpg. The settings state that if you enable RAW it will save as both jpg and RAW.

Hey!

The Note7 saves photos in a compressed JPEG by default. However, you can also have it save both a compressed JPEG and a raw DNG file while shooting in the Pro mode.

JPEG photos usually have post-processing applied to them by the camera software already, so they're ready for sharing. DNG photos are just the raw images captured by the sensor, but because they have a ton of information, they are much better for editing in photo apps like Snapseed and Lightroom, both of which support DNG editing.

Personally, I keep that option enabled, as when I'm in the Pro mode, I'm likely going to be spending quite a bit of time getting the perfect shot.

Thanks D13,
That is exactly what I wanted to know. I work on camera files for a living. I was curious about the raw aspect. Do they come out of camera with the .dng setting?
Also, what card reader are you using?

Thanks,

Miike

You have to use a file manager to get the RAW files since they don't show up in the Gallery.

I actually use Lightroom and Snapseed on the device itself to edit the RAW files.

And I don't actually use a card reader. I just snag them off the device itself.
