Note 7 - The screen gap is mentioned in the manual (supposed to be there)

Re: Please check your phone for this build quality issue. See picture and details!

Black Onyx version here, I have the light bleed but there's no gap to fit paper. Not really going to effect me entirely too much as I use a case. I think it's just how the phone was designed.

No chance at all the gap/light bleed was designed that way. It is a defect, as many don't have it. Mine didn't. If you're fine with it, great....but now would be the time to get yourself a new one that isn't defective in this way.

Re: The gap is supposed to be there. (and some are bigger than others) Relax! :) Not a defect,!

Well I honestly think that the gap free owners are just not seeing it even though it's there.

I exchanged mine at the store yesterday (even went for the coral blue this time) and looked at a couple other units they had. Every single Note 7 there had a slight gap.

You can't trust people to report back findings with the same degree of consistency. Some owners might simply not be discerning enough to notice it, while others are too obsessive.

My old Note 7 had a gap but it was so minute that you'd be hard pressed to find it. Yet it was there. If Samsung to the time to mention the gap in the manual, best believe all Notes have one.

And even if they all have a gap apparently it is normal (or at least how Samsung meant it to be when making it). We can disagree with that if we want but if they say "We know we did that and here is why" explains it way better than us thinking there is an actual gap as if the screen was coming apart.

Re: Please check your phone for this build quality issue. See picture and details!

So it's been determined that the gap is not only intentional, but an expected part of the mfg process. How is that poor quality control? Sounds like, accurate quality control to me.

Expected part of the mfg process? It's been determined? Please provide a link to the official statement from Samsung regarding the light bleed.

Re: Please check your phone for this build quality issue. See picture and details!

This topic makes me wonder about how the IP66 stuff works? it seems like this flaw particularly would make the phone non-compliant. Does the IP66 rating give us any benefit as far as claims?
You are assuming that it is a flaw. Just because someone in a forum decided that it's a flaw doesn't make it one. I can see this light on my Black Onyx Note 7 and I've soaked my phone in water a few times to show that it can be done. No problems. As far as I know, not one person has actually had an issue related to this yet it has blown up this thread. Someone will stick something in that tiny crack and actually break the seal and then cry that the phone is defective. It will happen. I'm positive.

(stepping off soapbox now)

Re: Please check your phone for this build quality issue. See picture and details!

We've all seen page 228. Again, where is the official explanation from Samsung regarding the light bleed? Because that isn't it.

This is defect. 100%

They said there will be a gap -- So I guess I am missing how it is a defect? A gap would technically allow light. How would there be a gap but no light or anything coming through it? That doesn't even make sense.

Page 228 does not in any way shape or form explain this issue. Where does it say light should bleed from this gap?

Where does it say it should not bleed? If it bothers you, it bothers you. It is almost never visible and doesn't bother me. The gap is supposed to be there apparently. If it is that much of a problem then I am not sure what to tell you. Try a different phone?

Mine seems to have this gap to... Didn't do the light test but where my gap is it seems to collect dust and what not

If there is a GAP(which Samsung acknowledged) around the screen of the phone, light would "bleed" through.

So if you have a GAP in your door frame of your house, would light not pass through from the other room? It would not be a GAP if it was blocked!

Maybe this will help.

GAP:

noun
1. a break or hole in an object or between two objects.
"he came through the gap in the hedge" Not sure how he would get through a gap by your definition...
synonyms: opening, aperture, space, breach, chink, slit, slot, vent, crack, crevice, cranny, cavity, hole, orifice, interstice, perforation, break, fracture, rift, rent, fissure, cleft, divide
"a gap in the shutters"
2. an unfilled space or interval; a break in continuity.
"there are many gaps in our understanding of what happened"
synonyms: pause, intermission, interval, interlude, break, breathing space, breather, respite, hiatus, recess More

Maybe it is better if there is a gap. So, if you do not have a gap I would definitely return it.

I am guessing that a gap is acceptable, which is why it is in the manual. I wouldn't worry much

I guess it's in the manual to cover poor workmanship, just like clothes that come with tags telling you that the flaws & defects that you are seeing are intentional to make every article "unique" to the wearer. BS.

Anyone not returning their Note7?

Just wondering in anyone here is "taking a chance". I've had ZERO issues with my note with overheating while charging, but then again i use the Samsung cable.

Re: Anyone not returning their Note7?

Not returning until my back up phone arrives. I bought one to keep for these kinds of emergencies.

Re: Anyone not returning their Note7?

Update!!!! Just got home from my local Verizon Store. I talked to the store manager. I was told to hold on to my GNote4 that I was suppose to return with my plan had it already boxed up to mail back, and my GNote7 and wait for the New batch from Verizon and Samsung!!! As Long as my phone is not getting hot when charging in which it hasn't. I am fine with that.

I use a TYLT and when using fast charging I had some heat, but then I always did with my other Notes and never had an issue. That said, after I found out about the battery issue I turned off fast charge to be safe. I still deciding about swapping for a loaner with Sprint until the new one arrives.
