note 8 - im not recieving notificatons for messenger - no sound or chat head,

Note 8- Im not receiving notification for Facebook messenger. no sound or little speech bubble at top of locked screen. I dont get a chat head bubble either. all settings are put to on. chat head is on. I have to keep refreshing my messenger in order for new messages to come through. this is very frustrating as I run a business page too and nothing is coming through, my Facebook status and Instagram notification do, and a emails come through its only the Facebook messenger, I have uninstalling and re installing again., restarting phone. is there a setting that I have missing. only had phone less than a week AND finding it frustrating. please help

I'm supposed to be meeting friends for breakfast and just opened the messenger app and saw they had messaged me 20 minutes earlier

make sure you don't have your FB messenger set to "always sleeping" in your battery saving settings. you don't get notifications if it is.
