Note 8 in poor cell service areas

Not a strong point for my Note 8. My old verizon hotspot can pull an LTE signal in a lot of places where the note drops all the way to 1X.

We live in an area that is notorious for horrible cell phone reception, and my Note 8 is exceptionally good in comparison to other phones I have had.

Hey thats good news. We spend the summer in an area thats pretty bad for cell service. Not sure if I want a Note 8 or 9 though.

It depends on the carrier (CDMA or GSM) and the exact spot. (A dead spot can be smaller than 12 inches in diameter, and an inch or two thick.) If the area has generally poor signal, it's probably because there aren't very many customers in that area, so the carrier isn't going to build out to improve the signal. Another carrier in the same spot might be very strong.

In rural Colorado and Northern New Mexico where the signal is less than stellar, the Note 8 does very well.

My iphone 8 plus gets noticeably better service than my note 8. Also, my fiancé iphone 7 plus generally has 2 bars when my note 8 drops out. She usually gets to surf the internet while we are waiting at a place that i can't get service. I've tried rebooting to catch another tower to no avail. I had a similar experience with my note 7's. She has used the 7+ for 2 years and the only time I've been able to have service when she does is with my iphone 8 plus. They have different antenna and I'd have to give it to the iphone in low signal areas. There's nothing poor about the note 8 signal, just not as good.

I travel weekly for work. Most the time my Note 8 is solid and reliable.

But there are times in rural areas that I'll drop calls and be without signal for a while.

My work phone is a S8 and I'll still be able to make phone calls with it while the Note will not connect.

Overall I have better signal with the S8. But they are both solid.

I've been in areas that my coworkers are surprised I have reception at all on either phone.
