Note 8 - loses 70% charge doing nothing overnight!

I have a Galaxy Note 8 which I really like. I am trying to figure out if I have a defective unit. This has been the situation for months. I have everything off except wifi. The battery is at 100%. I put it to sleep by pressing the power button. Next day the battery is around 30%. I also use iPads and I have never seen anything like this. I can see losing 5% but 70 seems odd. Before putting the Note 8.0 to sleep I kill all apps. Only WiFi is on. I have a WiFi only Note 8.0 . Is this unusual? I have an extended warranty on the unit so exchanging it would be fine provided this is not the Note's way.

Thank you,

Philip

My Nexus 7 uses between 4 and 6 percent while I sleep.

Have you checked the battery usage function within settings?

Yes, but what should I be looking for? The display takes up most of the power. I have almost everything turned off that makes the tablet interesting. The 5% loss overnight would be more than acceptable but 70% is weird. The only thing that I can think off to turn off other than the display would be wifi.

I should point out that I do not power down the Note 8.0. I put it to sleep.

All of my devices are left on. The Note 8 and 10.1 loose maybe 2% throughout the night. The Note 3 around 3-4, due to email volume. In situations with low signal, power usage goes up a bit.

Well if the display is eating up 70% then the tablet isn't sleeping the display is coming on throughout the night. Do you have an auto off cover you are using? After the display what is next do you have one application that seems to be running excessively? Something likely is causing your tablet to be on and running all night and that would explain the 70%

I was having a similar issue with my gs4. So I did a factory reset and reinstalled everything. The problem never came back.

If not being used, screen off, and wifi on. My Note 8's battery drain was not too bad, but still nothing like my N7, which would only drop a percentage or so over night, compared to 3-4% for the Note. My main issue was that when running apps on the Note, it just would run through the battery as if the apps weren't really optimized for it.. The same apps on the N7 would take a fraction of the battery hit over the same amount of time. I got tired of it and sold the Note at a slight loss. Have turned around and put the money on the N5 and will look at another tablet later.

It is not the display. It is the Android OS which stays on for hours overnight. The display is off. The Keep Awake process seems to be preventing it from going into a deep sleep. I did a factory reset and reinstalled everything and the situation got better but I am still losing at least 30%. I like the Note 8 for the Wacom capabilities and am not interested in another Android tablet other than the new Note 10.1 . Surely there is some fix to this. I have turned off almost everything that makes the tablet interesting. Could this be a bug in the OS?

I stopped using the auto off cover. There is a limit to the things I will stop using otherwise I would have to keep the tablet powered off which defeats the purpose. The Keep Awake from within the Android OS is the culprit. This seems to be a widespread condition amongst Android phones and many attribute it to Google services which can't be turned off in an obvious way.
