We've known this for a while now.

The Majority of phones updated to Oreo don't support Treble, it's the ones that came with Oreo that have Treble support.

Yeah I heard on All About Android that Samsung said it wouldn't support treble, but I guess it could change in the future, it's on Pixel phones for sure.

Not necessarily, Samsung said it will be on new hardware, starting with the S9, but hasn't said anything about existing products.

Nope. There is no Treble support on the Note8, it would have needed a whole lot of work to get it onto the Note8.

Can it be done, of course.
Will it be successful for everyone, cannot be sure.
Will people cry after Treble support that they lost all data or there is bootloop and curse Samsung for not testing things out, sure.

Why is it somehow easier on phones that ship with Oreo as opposed to phones that are upgraded to Oreo? In other words, what is needed besides Oreo firmware? Just curious.

There has to be a separate partition created to house the "base" software. I would not want them to try to create this via OTA just imagine the horror stories of people getting their $1000 phones bricked

rooted phones create separate partition so I'm doubting the process would be all that hard. I'm guessing Samsung doesn't want to participate with the Note 8.

and one thing to remember, for SD variant, treble/ no treble, locked bootloader is the bottleneck, so not missing anything. EXynos variant, sure, this is different.

Android 8.0 has about a 2% install base.. And Pixel phones make up less than 1% of android sales.

Premium android phones might get three years of Android upgrade support, and even present six month delays aren't material. You aren't missing out on anything vital if you only have Android 7.1.1 installed.

Does Android P matter? Not really.

We use software on our phones, and the underlying android version is not that important. In fact, no app creator writes code that is so important, so fundamental it can only work on Oreo..... Because as I wrote, almost nobody has or can install Oreo.

But go ahead, obsess about Android OS if you insist.

I really never fully understand the rush and want for the very latest OS. In fact, I would have been happy to stay on 7.1.1 and simply get Security Updates.

I actually do not understand why we need yearly OS upgrades (I guess Apple instilled this stupid culture), they seem.to make it all difficult for Google and OEMs.

What would be great is if we got Android OS updates every 2.5years or so, and they simply focused on Security + Battery Life / Software Efficiency Monthly updates.

These yearly OS upgrades have been nothing but a disaster. Almost every year the first couple of releases of OS update from Google have some sort of Battery Hogging bug and software instability bugs and it's up to Samsung, LG, Sony etc... to then try find their own band-aid fixes while Google sort their house out, absolutely ridiculous.
