Note 8 or Pixel XL 2

Ok, first, I would like to thank you all! This has helped me decide, and it looks like I might get the Note 8. I like the Pixel 2 XL's software and audio, but I think I would use the S-Pen a lot for note-taking. This is also because I like the screen size more on the Note as well. Thanks Again!!!

I had the Note 8 and now have the Pixel 2 XL and also had the iPhone X for what it's worth. I can say the Pixel stacks up speed wise with the iPhone, the Note has that Samsung hiccup in the software that seems to always be there. I also kind of hated the Note camera. Not sure why I just couldn't get behind it. I loved the OG Pixel camera and am digging this one too. I haven't gotten a Portrait picture yet but I'm trying. I say go with the Pixel but the Note is a viable option and has a ton of features.

I've had both. The Note 8 bricked on me one morning due to an update from Verizon. That was it. I picked up a 2 XL and it is all I need. The Note 8 has a great screen but it was kinda tall and the battery is not as good as the Pixel. Plus the speakers sucked. Samsung really needs to fix that. To me the all the Samsung software was not used. I'm fine with what Google offers. I'm still trying to find a problem with the 2 XL.

Pixel 2 XL all the way. Tried the Note 8 as a second device and returned it in less than a day lol. I just couldn't deal with the Samsung software. The only thing Samsung has better are the screens in my opinion. Other than that, the Pixels knock it out the water.
SPen on the pixel is wayyy better too

As someone who is pretty much done with dealing with Samsung nonsense... My wife had several and they all let her down terribly. In my experience, if there is a software problem with my Nexus/Pixel, There's a pretty good chance Google will fix it. I've brought about 6 defects to the attention of Google's technical support staff and in each case, they worked with me to gather information and all 6 were fixed within a couple of weeks...

My wife, on the other hand, I contacted Samsung with two rather bad defects in the camera system on the S7/S7 Edge and I never received any follow up from their support staff. Both defects remain a problem today and I'm guessing that they'll never get addressed.

That matters to me. I'm looking at my 2 XL now knowing that Google will be on top of it for the next three years. Can anyone say that about their Note?

I have had both although I returned the note 8 and I’m currently with the pixel. For me I prefer the pixel. I like the pure Google experience and I hated the placement of the fingerprint sensor on the note. I also prefer what I get out of the camera on the pixel versus the note. Having said that they’re both great phones and you can’t go wrong with either.

That's the heart of the matter. You actuality have to work hard to get an objectively bad phone these days.

Exactly. It's not like years ago - you are actually hard-pressed to find a phone that isn't "good."

I totaly agree. For all the criticissm the essencial phone got it's still my favorite phone this year. Even the camera is good. Its just not up there with the pixel or note 8 and its the only reason that is not my daily driver.

I too was thoroughly impressed with the Essential Phone. Only reason I didn't pounce on it was because my carrier didn't sell it and I need to go with my carrier this time 'round. But it's a great and gorgeous phone and I'm excited to see what happens next year with its successor. It's a good time to be a phone geek!

6 defects > 2 defects.

Samsung wins, AGAIN

I'm trying that now. Snapdragon version. We'll see how it goes. Must say, the LG V30's standby time is astonishingly good comparatively. I wonder if that's just Android 7.1.2 on the V30 vs. 7.1.1 on the Note 8. Did Google improve Doze dramatically between the two?

Lg always had good stand by time compared to Samsung phones. What Ive seen in videos the v30 has better battery life or on our depending on what bideo you watch . And just experience with Samsung devices I've never had good stand by time with Samsung compared to other phones I have had

This isn't really a competition thread.

People come here looking for advice, however if we are going to do the math
6 defects corrected equals 0 defects remaining
2 problems not corrected equals 2 remaining.
Nuff said.....it's all about choice. You prefer Samsung...we get it. Why not post in a positive manner instead of just zinging the Pixel?

Note 8 is superior hardware in every way, but Bixby and TouchWiz and other Samsung attempts to assault your pure Android experience are unbearable, so I returned mine.

If you value a lot of hardware features with software updates that aren't...frequent, I'd suggest the Note 8. If you want good hardware with an amazing software update schedule, I'd suggest getting the Pixel 2 XL.

*a SPen.

And your loss.

It's actually "S Pen". Also, you would say "an S Pen". You use "an" before words that start with a consonant sound. Example: "I will be there in an hour". You wouldn't say "a hour". There are a few more rules as well, but you get the gist.

You got almost everything right except that you use it for vowels and vowel sounds, not consonants.
