Hey all, I am a recovering Apple Fan boy and not only am I madly in love with the look of my Note 8 but I'm happy to have the ability to customize my liking straight out of the box without having to jailbreak etc. But I'm confused as to why the android OS updates have to be pushed to your device whereas once Apple releases an OS update to the public everyone can update to that without having to wait. Still very new to Android and the way they do things so i was not sure if there is a specific reason and was curious.

Thanks

It's because of the exact reasons you like Android. Because IOS is totally locked down there are no variables, but the Samsung version of Android is slightly different from the Blackberry version hence the delay

IOS only has to work on 6 models.
Android has to work on every single other one in the world.

Once Google decides to separate the OS from carrier addons, we may get faster updates. Carrier addons should be treated like Playstore apps.

AT&T Oreo Update just came in

Just got it.

Yep by one minute lol.

Ok so... Oreo looks... exactly the same (not surprised lol).

Besides changing my AOD Clock to the newer option... what is new with Oreo?
Judging by my experience with Oreo on the GS9, you might see some new behavior with notification badges (they disappear if you clear the notification area) and individualized message ringtones (they're no longer available).

Now after all of the impatience and complaints, let's see how much hate for it comes next.

Hopefully not much hate... But you know how these things go... There will be a flood of complaints during the initial adjustment period, and then all will be quiet.

I've been surprised at all the angst over the change in individual message tones. I forgot people used that feature - perhaps because I've been using a smartwatch for so long and haven't needed to use it myself.

Great. T-Mobile can't be too far behind.

Re: AT&T Oreo Update just came in

Well, just hope it's a stable update. My concern is that any wonky bugs I imagine we'd have to live with it for a while before Samsung/AT&T would fix in update.

My phone recently had been running clean and all previous issues like freezing while charging on AOD or slow charge message when plugged in seemed to have been sorted out.

That's kind of my point. I'd rather have updates thoroughly tested before being pushed out. If that means I don't get it right away so be it.
I'd rather have the update right over fast.

ditto. Sprint's versions are notorious for that sort of thing and I have zero desire for the Oreo update until I hear from other users on Sprint that have taken the update and know it's working well. not interested in killing my device experience with a buggy update.

Re: AT&T Download Oreo Now

I went to check and it started downloading already LOL. Still going to wait until I hear about issues before install

Re: AT&T Oreo Update just came in

Is it recommended to factory reset after the download and install?
