Note 8 still camera the best ever in a phone

Note 8 definitely has a really nice camera, but I've always fancied the wide-angle camera on the LG V30.

Nice to know we have one of the best cameras but honestly I don't think I'm a good enough photographer to any of the top end ones justice anyway

I’m curious what Samsung has done.

That video definitely needs work though. Perhaps software updates will help?

It's noteworthy that the Note 8 has the highest score for PHOTOS (as opposed to video). If you look at the sub scores: 100 for Note 8, 99 for Pixel 2, and 94 for iPhone 8 Plus. So if photos are your priority, Note 8 is best.

I'm not a photographer, but definately the cameras on the Samsung is way better than the iPhones... the Note 5 camera out beats the iPhone 6 plus series, Note 7 camera out beats the iPhone 7 plus series... I did not get nor want the iPhone 8 plus, that's why i resorted with the Note 8, but quality wise on the Note 8 is amazing! Got alot of good compliments with the picture quality taken by the Note 8. Very satisfied and happy with my Note!

Not quite. Or rather, not at all. For the main 4 things that matter in photography, the Pixel 2 is trouncing the Note 8. That's Exposure and Contrast, Color, Autofocus and Texture. The big thing that the Note is winning on is zoom. Which is good, but it's a feature not used in the vast majority of photos. Note users will use it more because they have a dedicated lens to help with it and it's an advertised feature, but most users are point and shoot with very little modification.

Exposure and Contrast Pixel wins by 13 points
Color Pixel wins by 13 points
Autofocus Pixel wins by 4 points
Texture Pixel wins by 8 points

Zoom Note 8 wins by 34 points

And the rein is over! The Pixel 2 is the new King of the Hill.

Scored 98.

No. Given DXOMark's scoring methodology, the Note8 scored 100 and the Pixel2 scored 99. You are free to use your own methodology if it suits your purposes better (e.g., if zoom is not important to you). I take mostly portrait shots and consider the zoom very important, so DXOMark's scoring methodology works for me.

Glad you love it!

It should also be noted that the note 8 does a significantly better job at detail preservation in low light than the Pixel 2 dxomark gives the note 8 16 points higher than the Pixel 2 for noise.

I realize that this might be unimportant for you but it's significant for me.

Sample from dxomark.:
