Note 8 will have FPS in back :(

Has anyone confirmed that the iPhone will have the embedded fingerprint scanner? I haven't heard this. Samsung stated that the Note8 wouldn't have it, so we know that much. Apple is still a question mark, I believe.

Yeah I don't think Apple will have it either.

So you're assuming Apple is going to go ahead and release with the under-glass sensor even though (your guess) it's working less reliably than their regular FPS... but Samsung is going to wait until it's as good as their capacitive scanner??

You're really putting more trust in that from a company that just released a half baked, useless Bixby button and twice released an exploding phone?

Honestly I would not think Apple would release if they couldn't get it as consistent as their current FPS... and if you haven't used their current sensor, it's pretty good. They have a lot of high expectations on the 10th anniversary phone.

Samsung is going with two companies to get this sorted out cause it sounds like really sounds like it hasn't been fully developed... Apple bought the company that their sensor is based on i believe a couple of years ago and sounds like it's sorted. The only issue I heard was with low yield for mass production.

With the latest Samsung leak... if they just put the button in the middle and under the dual cameras and deliver on the rest... I think people will be ok with it and see if they can't get the sensor right on the S/Note 9.

You just have to remember, what do you prefer? A fancy new embedded scanner that works at less than currently 100% or a capacitive scanner that works perfectly? It's a no brainer. Also, whose to say the Apple embedded scanner will work just as well as their regular scanner?

Maybe it works a little bit less reliably than the regular scanner but Apple think it's good enough. Whereas Samsung don't want to release it until it's as good as the capacitive scanner. Samsung have now 2 companies working on it. There must be a good reason for not releasing it yet.

You forget that Apple has had problems with its phones too. People have forgotten the iPhone 4 with Apple claiming people were holding it wrong, hence the bad reception. Or iPhone 6 and bending. Or touch disease, which a class action was launched.

Btw, my ageing S5 Galaxy's fingerprint scanner still works flawlessly.

Regarding your other comments. The Note 7 is a one off debacle. Bixby is still being developed. Possibly it was released a bit premature but before long it will be a valuable addition to Samsung phones.

Sales of the note 8 will not be any different with or without this feature.

I, for one am very disappointed about this and the stupid curved screen on a device that comes with a stylus.

I was expecting this to be my next phone but there's always new cool stuff coming out.

I really love the s-pen, and it may be the only thing that keeps me on the note line.

Though, I would love it if Samsung backed off the Bixby button. That would make it the best Samsung phone since the Note 4. Because you can ignore it and it doesn't "explode" I guess it's .... OK, but Samsung releasing something that wasn't ready to go at launch in the targeted market was a fail. One most people didn't really care about, but still.

I'm still holding out hope that the Note 8 will be epic, and maybe enough to make me forget the Note 7.

One thing I will say that I said earlier in this forum. That there is no way Samsung would repeat the same type of FPS that it did in the S8. The near universal disdain of that sensors location guaranteed that. And because it had to be appear symmetrical with the led flash at the other side of the camera lens, it is an odd shape and smaller than normal.

I will be disappointed if they move the FPS to the front. I have no issues with its location on the S8+.

I thought Note 8 would be a gorgeous looking like the Note 7 with embedded on-screen fingerprint reader but the back of this looks like garbage chinese smartphones. So disappointed :(
I hope this leak ain't true and Samsung somehow manages to embedd fingerprint in display along with Harmon Kardon stereo speakers.

Yeah, I was hoping they would go wider, embedded FPS, and dual camera to bring the Note brand back to glory. Looks like only getting one of those. Oh well, not the end of the world.

Maybe I am reading something else into this, but from what I read, I believe the technology works. However, it is not secure enough. Maybe the technology can be tricked too easily and that's the part that still needs to be tweaked.

Looks like the FPS will be on the back and below the camera and round! :-)

Samsung Galaxy Note8 schematics reveal fingerprint scanner on the back - GSMArena.com news

Apple, Samsung, WHOEVER, will release whatever device in whatever configuration is going to make them the most $$$. Period!
All the "so called" leaks doing the rounds are conjecture so I'd say don't count your chickens yet.
I've no doubt that if either Apple or Samsung released a phone with a fps dangling from a cord, millions would still buy it, baaaa.
For me though, because I'm not a sheep, I will wait and see and if the fps on the Note 8 IS the same as on the S8 (fps on S8 is a deal breaker) then I will seriously consider going back to apple but ONLY IF they have a reliable embedded fps and ONLY if all the other reported goodies of the iPhone 8 come to fruition. If Note 8 has fps on the back but lower, like Pixel, then I would try it B4 I buy, try iPhone 8 or wait for S9. I refuse to be dictated to by major corporations. Don't like it - don't buy it, bearing in mind, of course, that no one phone is likely to be perfect for 100% of people but it's what you are willing to compromise on that will determine what you buy. Don't buy just to have the "latest and greatest".

You really don't know how Apple operates if you think they'll release it if it doesn't work as well as TouchID.

Unfortunately, looks like they are going to repeat the disaster from the latest leak
