Note 9 Att 5g E ?

I don't have the 5G E logo on my Note 9 yet but I've been seeing some very fast speeds in some areas here in Denver. The highest download speed I got was 211Mbps.
That's awesome!!! Nothing quite that fast here in Indianapolis. I'll be in Colorado springs in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to taking some mountain pics with this phone!

Some AT&T users who have installed the new iOS 12.2 beta are noticing their iPhones displaying a '5G E' connection to AT&T's network, which is AT&T's misleading name for an "upgraded" version of 4G LTE.

AT&T began rolling out its fake 5G icon to Android smartphones in early January, and it now appears the change is extending to the iPhone.

Devices in certain areas are displaying a "5G E" icon instead of LTE, but as the "E" suggests, this is not real 5G. No iPhone that exists right now is capable of connecting to a 5G network, nor is AT&T's network 5G at this time.

It's actually faster than lte in many areas. It's not true 5g but it's free and faster. Why complain about.

I guess at least the 5GE is just not replacing the 4GLTE symbol and I guess the phone is detecting and doing something different? In the financial district in Manhattan, I get 5GE, but going to midtown east side, I get the usual 4GLTE. Didn't get a chance to compare speeds but it's just a crap shoot. Congestion during times - it's hard to say what is the normal speed you should be getting.

My real question is why is the 5GE and the "new" 4GLTE symbols seem so tiny - like it's subscript. It has all that space above the symbols.

So it's 4GE+ or something. It uses 4x4 but putting "5" in there ? A mockery of jargon. When 1024 was too confusing because binary was beyond consumers and we got 1GB = 1000 instead.

Yes it's nice. But still stupid.
