On my Samsung Galaxy Note 9Plus, after a recipient opened an of an SMS or MMS I sent, the status would indicate “Read” with the time stamp on the left hand side of the message when the email was viewed. Since using the same SIM card and carrier on my Note20, the message no longer indicate if read. I’ve set the notifications/statuses on the Note20 to resemble my Note 9. It is not the same as a delivery notification.

Samsung online support have not been able to resolve the issue – asking me to go to a Samsung store. They have stated it’s a carrier restriction however I haven’t changed carriers and am using the same SIM card in each phone.
Have others noticed this? Does anyone know the settings please?

Have others noticed this? Does anyone know if its a setting or the firmware?

I haven't been able to add a screen print to this post showing it.

Thanks,
Jeff

I'm with AT&T as my Carrier, and the only messages I get "feedback" (delivered, read) from, are other AT&T Members, like my Brother-in-Law and my niece. All others, nothing - it's always been that way with all my Notes, including the 20 Ultra? I select "Advanced Messaging" in the AT&T Messaging App and that gives me that function but, only for AT&T users, I guess!

Standard SMS and MMS messaging do not support read receipts.
Some carriers have created their own SMS apps that will support read receipts when both the sender and receiver are on that same carrier.

Read receipts will not be standard until all the carriers support RCS with the Universal Profile, which most carriers are dragging their feet in supporting.

If you have recently upgraded your OS version, any updated SMS app may have dropped the feature.

Thanks Joe. I'm using the same Android messaging app on both phones.

My Note9 uses Android v10, Messages v11.1.67.75.
My Note20 uses Android v11, Messages v12.0.100.221.

My Telco obviously supports the feature as it functions on my Note 9, using the same SIM card/phone number and same message recipient when comparing the statuses. The recipient hasn't changed phones (Note10), hasn't changed carrier, hasn't changed settings.

I have posed the question to Samsung again however on previous occasion, they just stated it was the carrier, but that isn't the case as I receive the statuses from specific message recipients when I put my SIM back in my Note9.

i've asked Samsung and the response referred to non-existent menu options.

Are you using Samsung messages or Google messages? If you are using Google messages we're you using RCS or advanced messaging on the Note 9 plus?
