Note8 Stuck In Restart / Reboot Loop...

I've had my Note8 for just over a year now and have never had this issue but last night my phone was stuck in this endless restart / reboot loop and the only way to stop it was to unplug it from the charger. ????

I've had this setting where my Note8 does an automatic restart once a week on Saturday around 3am, so when it tried restarting early this morning it kept looping.

It only does this when my phone is plugged into the charger. I tried all three recommended steps...

1. Simulate Battery Pull / Forced Restart
2. SAFE Mode
3. Wipe Cache Partition

Nothing works. When I plug my charger into the phone and restart it, it keeps restarting. :-

Anyone else experience this problem? Any help is appreciated. Otherwise, time to call AT&T I guess...

So it only bootloops when it's plugged in? Does that mean that when it's not plugged in, you can use it normally? Or does it not turn on at all if it's not plugged in?

If it doesn't even turn on when not plugged in, it might be a failing battery. You may have to bring it to a repair shop (if it's no longer under warranty).

It only happens when I am charging it and it is restarted during the charge. Otherwise, it charges fine, it works like it should. It's the craziest thing and just started happening last night. I never installed any new app recently or anything.

So to be clear...

If the charger is plugged in and the phone restarts (which happens once a week for an auto restart), then it tries to restart over and over again and won't stop looping until I unplug the charger. The moment I unplug it, it loads the homescreen and all is fine. I can even restart it at that point, and it restarts fine but the moment I plug in the charger and restart it...it just loops over again.

So why does it charge completely fine and restart fine. But if I do both (charge it and restart it) the dump thing just keeps restarting over and over again????? So bizzare!

I know...just don't set the auto restart but why is this happening all of a sudden? Also, don't apps require a restart when they update? If they do and I'm sleeping while it's charging, my phone's alarm won't go off and wake me up. This happened to me today but it didn't matter b/c it was Saturday. On any other day I would have been screwed.

I called AT&T and they had me do a backup using Smart Switch and then suggested I do a factory reset. I was assured I won't lose anything, not even the settings or wall paper. I then did a factory reset and the only thing that was kept were my apps and the order they were in. All my settings are gone and even the wallpaper is back to default.

I've spent all day on this DANG stupid problem. I HATE THIS JUNK! At a time when we need more support with technology, no one seems to have it and no one knows how to fix it.

I'm having to activate all my stupid apps and then some are paid and want the Google Transaction ID...this doesn't work even though I'm typing it in exactly and it just goes on and on.

Enough to make someone go CRAZY!!! Just INSANE this junk!!!!!

Wasted a whole freakin' Saturday over this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sure it's some issue software related.......

I do have SquareTrade with a $100 deductible so it looks like if I want the issue fixed, I'll need to go without my phone until it's replaced.

What happens if the phone is plugged in and then you manually restart the phone? Does that also trigger a bootloop? Sorry if you already said this -- I wasn't quite sure from how you described it.

It makes me think there might be a problem with the charge port. Have you tried different charging cables/plugs?

Yes, it will bootloop no matter what if it's charging and I restart it (auto or manual). Sorry I'm so upset. I appreciate you trying to help. And yes, I tried my wife's Note8 charger and the same thing happened.

It does seem that something is wrong with the charger port in my phone. But why does it charge fine on it's own and restart just fine on it's own. But if these two things are combined (charging and restart) it bootloops forever...???

I'm not technical enough to speculate on why this might be happening. Is the phone still under warranty? If so, contact Samsung. Otherwise, you may just have to bring it to a repair shop to see if the charge port needs to be replaced.

Any problems when you try to connect the phone to your computer via USB and transfer files? If yes, then that would further support the possibility of a faulty port.

Have you tried it on a wireless charger?

No, but the 1st AT&T rep suggested this as an alternative, thanks!

True, I do have 3rd party insurance (SquareTrade) that I can use with a $100 deductible, so not too bad.

I do feel the charger port is going bad. For now it's just affected when it's plugged in and I try to restart so maybe this issue will become worse and happen all the time.

Just frustrating as this is kind of a fluke...it only happens when both things happen but each function on their own work fine, charges fine, restarts fine. ???

Does anyone know an app that truly restores your phone EXACTLY the way it was before a factory reset? Smart Switch by Samsung keeps some stuff but I lost my Wallpaper (can't find it again) and all the settings on my apps are undone. My ringtones, notifications are all back to default. All my fingerprints, locked stuff changed back to default. I was told all these things will be restored but they weren't. The only thing is it put all my apps I already had downloaded, big deal, I could have taken a screenshot of these and reinstall them since that's what I'm basically doing, going through all my apps and having to set them all up again as if I just installed them. So what's the point? ARG!

Man what a waste of time this has been and my phone isn't even fixed, so if I do use my insurance to replace the phone, I'll be going through all of this again.
