so I found what seems to be a new note 8 for 500.00 on amazon.
I need to verify that its new but would that be a good buy in 2019 in light of the note 9 is here. any guess on how long it will be supported by Samsung.
and if its not open or charged is that 2 years on that battery. or will I have two years of good life.

I would say $400 most if you can get it new. @ $400 it's worth it. It's only a step behind the 9 in performance from viewing a youtube vid of beta pie on Note 8 vs official pie on Note 9. I think you'd get two years of good performance from it and holds it's own. Missing stereo speakers but S10 missing pen. New phones have fantastic new screens but honestly Note 8 QHD screens so good you play a 4k HD youtube vid compared to any of the newer phones it'll look just as good. Battery is a question mark. Good battery at launch and mines still getting through the day but if yours been sitting for over a year (??)... but I think should be decent for next year or two. I wouldn't trade my Note 8 for a new OnePlus 6T so I guess I'm saying I'd pay $500 if that's the best you can do.

I'm still on my Note 8 and completely happy that I resisted the Note 9, it was just to much of an expense for the few extras it has, now with Pie and One UI coming it should keep me entertained until I get Note 10 in November.
I did get a Galaxy Watch though as an excuse for not upgrading :-)
If you get a new Note 8 for 500 it would be a decent deal and should last you 2 years no problem

The Note 5 is still a worthy device in 2019, so yes a Note 8 would be perfectly fine to get you through the next few years.
