Notification alert still there after viewing - Samsung Galaxy S7

If I get a text or a msg etc the notification alert is still on the top of the screen and still previews if I lock my phone even after I've viewed it. It doesn't matter if I click the app directly or pull down and click it from the notification pane. Not sure how to make this stop.

Welcome to Android Central! Is this for every single app that gives notifications, or only certain ones?
