Finally got android pie (Verizon was only 3 months late to the party for Note 9).

When you receive a text message and answer it in the notification bar, the entire conversation appears.... why? And it stays, forever.

It used to be that you can change a setting to "mark as read" If you answered the text from any pop-up/notification bar.

Is there a way to do this in android pie?

Maybe this can help some, at least with the 'conversation' part.

If using the standard Google 'Message' app, then conversations can be shown/not shown in the settings accessed from the main phone Settings.
Settings/Apps & notifications/(see all apps)/Messages/Notifications/Conversations
- Show Notifications … (toggle on/off for conversations)
- (individual conversations listed...available to show/not show)

Tip...it would seem in Android Pie, some apps have additional settings listed in the app location in the main phone settings area....in addition to the setting within the actual app itself.

Additionally on a side note, message notifications on the Lock Screen can also be tweaked from the main phone Settings.
Settings/Lock screen & security/Lock screen preferences
- New notifications (wake screen when new notifications) on/off
- Notifications/Show notifications (show all notifications content) …(show all notifications content/hide sensitive content/don't show at all)
- Keep notifications (Notifications shown until swipe to dismiss … on/off)

I did not find any specific setting to mark messages read/unread or specific to the notification bar (other than to turn off notifications entirely)

Hope some of this is helpful
