Notification counter quantity (Text and emails)

I tried doing a search but didn't find what I was looking for. On my old Samsung Epic I was able to select a quantity option for unread texts and emails in my notification bar.

So for example, if I had received 4 text messages and 2 emails (all unread) my notification bar would show the text message icon and within that icon would be "4" for there being that many unread texts. Similarly there would also be the email icon with "2" within the icon for 2 unread emails.

I'm new to the S3 and haven't found the setting to enable this. Can someone please point me in the direction as to how to do this? (I'm rooted if it matters).

I think Samsung or Sprint ditched that feature from the S2 forward. I had the S2 and S3, and I never had a feature like that.
