Notification dot not showing up on app icon

I have a Google pixel 6 pro and cannot activate the notification for next to the msg and call apps. I have the allow notification for selected

Your using the default launcher I'm assuming and stock apps?

Welcome to Android Central! Just to be sure -- you long-pressed an empty part of the homescreen, tapped Home Settings, and made sure Notification Dots is turned on?
