Will the 6p ever have this feature to come to this phone. I like the idea of the notification dots that Oreo brought to the Pixel but for some reason we didn't get it on the 6p and seems to be exclusive to the Pixel. Outside of Nova is there a way to bring this feature to the 6p?

That's a Pixel launcher feature. You should get the dots notifications on 6P if you use Pixel launcher and enable dots notification in app permissions.

Isn't this already installed via Oreo?

Look in settings then notifications; sure it's in there!

If not, Nova Launcher will sort it for you!

It is but even when enabled it doesn`t work on our 6P
That's what I was having trouble getting it to too. It'll work on Nova but you have to go through 100 steps which I really didn't feel like doing. I may not even worry about it but it sure is a cool feature. The other feature I like is the shortened version of the Google search bar on the pixel.

It's literally three steps on Nova. Nova Settings > Notification badges > Choose a style.

Oh okay I'll give it a shot then. Funny I was just thinking about another launcher. I've used Nova so long that it's become my favorite one to use. I had been just using the stock Google launcher as after the Oreo update it seemed to change the icons up a bit.

I just downloaded the pixel/Oreo apk file which then it basically installed the pixel launcher. Now my 6p has the same exact set up as the pixel does. Has the pill shaped search bar also. No home button but you just swipe up from the bottom to get to your full apps. Google Assistant is working just fine. I'll take a screen shot of my home page. I found the apk file on the XDA developers site. It states that you need to download another file for Google now to work but my ok Google and assistant are working just fine. I'm not sure about the notification dots just yet as I've not seen any so I wonder if they will show up. Anyone else download this apk file yet for their 6p? Just search in Google pixel launcher APK file and it should be the first thing that shows up taking you to the XDA site where you scroll down and download the file. Once it downloads it installs the pixel launcher and then you just select it as your default Launcher. I was reading an article about the Pixel and came across this about there being a apk file that existed to download and give your 6p the same exact set up that the Pixel has. Not only will it work with the 6p which was what it was made for and tested out on but it will work with other devices running Nougat I believe. I may put it on my Axon 7 Mini as well. All your icons change too. As for going back to the Google now launcher I suppose I just go into settings under default apps and change it back. Your phone does not have to be rooted to install and use this file. Again I'll post a screen shot of my new home page and will update if the notification dots ever appear. I'm trying to think if there was anything else that the Pixel launcher brought in that the 6p didn't have. I definitely like the pill shaped Google search bar now. I'm used to not having a home button in the app drawer bc I used EMUI for so long and loved that software which by the way is nothing remotely like Android. I don't even consider it to be Android in fact. It's just that unique and different. I'm not sure why Android purists hate on EMUI so much. It runs butter smooth and is much like a hybrid if you will of both Android and IOS. In fact when the day comes I get rid of my Nexus 6p I'll either get a Sony Xperia X or a Huawei Mate 9 which I'm totally used to EMUI bc I used the honor 8 so long. It by far is my favorite software and I prefer it over Android and IOS. I actually think it could be branded and offered as a third major software choice in the mobile industry because it's just that strongly different and unique. It's much different than a heavy skin. It's more than that. It's like Huawei has altered pretty much every aspect of Android there is and EMUI has to fall somewhere and since it couldn't fall under IOS it was thrown in as Android. Any of you who has used it knows exactly what I'm talking about. I absolutely love it and would choose it over stock Android or IOS any day. Anyways this apk file is out there on XDAs site to download and no rooting is required. Just download then it installs and then you have the option to default it as your main launcher. Pretty cool.

Heres a screen shot of my new home screen. At first a lot of the apps were circles that housed several apps by groups which I don't like so I basically took the apps I used out of each and placed them on screen and I removed the circle group icons.

Speaking of EMUI the Mate 9 which is a device that I plan to get one day when I let my 6p go has gotten the Oreo update according to this article. This article will also give the ones who don't have any user experience with EMUI some insight to just how different of a software it it actually is over Android. I'm not saying it's better or it's worse rather it's just what I personally prefer. Some have stated they can't stand it. Actually I've read where a lot of Android purists do not like EMUI at all bc of some of it's likenesses to that of IOS the way the settings are set up and especially EMUI 4.1 which this article is about a beta for EMUI 6.0 which each update with EMUI it becomes more and more Android compatible or it appears to me to be that way unfortunately as I loved 4.1. It's what I cut my teeth on learning EMUI then I used it all the way up to 5.1 but of course have no user experience with 6.0. It'll be interesting to see how EMUI interacts with Oreo 8.0 though. Both being so vastly different.

Why they went to the half-step of dots and not go to ambient notifications (like the old Moto X) is beyond me. Even more aggravating is that new notifications will flash in full in ambient, so the capability is there, but after that one appearance all you get is the dot. It's just lame and stupid.

For those of you who has downloaded the pixel APK file how is your ok Google Assistant working. Last night I could have full conversations with her but now I cant. Can anyone tell me what's going on with mine now? Why could I last night get her to speak back to me but now I'm unable to get her to joke back.

Is there a setting for this by chance that I can activate anywhere? Last night she was telling me her favorite color but today I can't get her to speak back. What's the difference of my two downloads that would make this a different function?

I got it figured out and know what I was doing wrong now. Glad I figured that out. I just wanted to make sure I had fully functional Google now.
