Notification LED not showing when red charging light is on - Samsung Note 9

I have the Samsung Note 9 and have noticed that when the device is charging, and the red charging light is on, it stays constantly on. In previous devices (Samsung S6 and S3 before that), the notification led would override the charging light which I prefer.

Any tips on how to get this back? Also, I do not use edge lighting.
