Notification popups with screen off?

Just got a 20 Ultra few days ago, initially with the screen off if I got a hangouts or txt it would pop up a notification, now no matter what of the multitude of settings I change, the screen stays off. I do get a notification sound, and if I wake the screen they are present.

If I turn always on screen to always on, I get an app badge for a notification, even though it's set to detailed rather than just
the badge.

Is this just a bug or am I missing something?

I know you said you looked around and played with all the settings you can find.
just to confirm, in the Notification AND the Lock Screen settings the notification option is set to "Details" ?
AOD is supposed to show just the icon and if you're playing music then title-artist info only.
I'm guessing your issue is that the screen isn't waking up to show the pop-up notification?

If after those settings are enabled as you intend them to be, and still see it fail to function properly... you can submit an error report using Samsung Members app

There been many in the s21 forums complaining about this , it would show up if your charging, make sure No power saving mode is on and you using AOD?

Yeah, it's set to detailed in both areas.

Where I'm at now is the AOD, if always-always on it will show the notification badge (like the hangouts icon) but not the message popup or any detail.
If set to partially always on, tap to wake or whatever they call it, the screen just stays off when an email or message is recieved.

In either case, if you waken the screen, the detail notification is shown as normal.

I've tried a bunch of combo's and I can't find anything that will wake the screen from either off or in AOD.
I'm almost positive when I first got the phone when I got a message it would pop up on a blank/off screen.
I can't seem to get it to do so now.

Update, if I go to Notifications and set it to BRIEF instead of detailed, I now again have popups on
the AOD screen. Is this intended behavior? There are so bloody many options it's a little confusing tbh.

Question, under notification options for the Hangouts app, at the bottom, what are Silent and Default, both with on/off sliders?

Apps/Hangouts/Notifications, at the bottom.
I still can't quite figure what does what, but those two "Silent"
and "Default" have something to do with whether I get popups on my AOD.

Yeah, the submenu looks like some of the other ones and is pretty straight forward, except for not
knowing what a silent or a default are lol..

Is there an actual user manual for Samsung's version of Android somewhere?

I'll look through there.

With both of those options ticked on, I get the AOD popup, but when I unlock the phone
and open hangouts, I get the same popup again and a default notification sound, which is weird.
Thus far with Silent off and Default on, I get the AOD popup but not a re-popup when I open the app.

With just Silent on, I get the AOD popup, and when I open hangouts I get the notification sound
again but not the popup lol..

what a weird thing

I would leave them as they are lol
I know it's a lot to take in with all those settings.

I had it on tap to see but changed it to always on earlier when I was monkeying around, I'll try going back to tap and see
if popups still work.

I also notice the silent and default don't seem to be on any of the other apps I glanced at.
Luckily, I guess lol..

Is there a way to increase the font size of the popup text?
I think I saw an across the board text size/style setting but
it does not seem to affect the popup.

Was experimenting when I took the screen shot.
Currently with silent off and default on its working pretty much as it should. I sure miss a larger font in the popup though.
