Notification sound delay

OK, so I have a bunch of custom notifications on /sdcard/notifications. When I get an email, the "Mail, Mother****er" sound byte from Eurotrip plays. It seems like Android knows how long the clip is, and will only play the notification for exactly that long. But, it plays with a slight lag. So the clip comes out more like "Mail, Mo" with the rest truncated.

Has anyone else encountered this? I'm guessing it has to do with reading it from the SD card. Since I'm rooted, is there perhaps somewhere else I can store notifications that will avoid this?

I noticed that ringers placed on the sdcard have a delay and are sometimes unpredictable. I wish android would cache these to the internal storage. Hope it makes it in gingerbread.

If you are rooted you can use root explorer to move/copy them to /system/media/audio/notifications
Since I've done this ringers have been perfect.
