Notification sound only plays through radio after pie update.

Ever since the pie update, whenever I'm in the car with my phone connected to the radio via Bluetooth, my phone will no longer play any notification sounds. For some reason all my notifications will only play through the radio (if I'm on that input). If I'm just listening to the radio (like I am 90% of the time) I will never get an audible notification.

Side note for some reason when I get a phone call, my ringtone will now play through the car speakers (never did that before) but it will work no matter what input the radio is on.

Is there a way to disable notifications from playing through the Bluetooth connection? Or at least get them to play through the speakers no matter what input I'm on (just like the phone will)?

If you look at bluetooth menu and shows your car connected it should give you some options.

if you're using Android Audio for some reason Android audio will turn off your notifications and everything just comes through your speaker in your car you're not going to get notified of email or any of those things. I guess this is for safety reasons.

I have the same issue but with my Bluetooth headset. When connected (which is all day every work day), the notifications only play through the headphones. The problem with that is I use the "around the neck" type so they are only in my ears when using them for calls throughout the day.

I ended up turning off the media connection and just left the phone audio on. This works for allowing notifications from the phone while Bluetooth connected. If I want to use them for media I just have to go back and turn it back on. Kinda a pain but it was the only option I could find.

Try the Separate App Sound option. I believe this may help.

EDT: Sorry I misunderstood your post. I believe this will just allow notification sounds to only come from your Note when connect to a bluetooth device.

Not android auto. Just a stock crappy radio in a Hyundai.
Same on a "stock crappy Kenwood aftermarket radio". So I stream the radio show through the phone, and have the radio on Bluetooth, and get everything through the radio. (It costs data, but if you have enough, that's not a problem. In my case, I'm seldom in the car with any need for notifications through the radio, so it costs me a few MB a month.) But most of the time I just listen to the radio and ignore the phone. 90% of the calls I get are for health insurance, car warranties, that sort of thing.

You have to turn on Dual Audio...
Go to Bluetooth settings and choose Advanced at the top right and turn on Dual Audio at the top of the list.

This doesn't work to resolve the Notifications issue.

Apparently, this is a change in Pie. From what I've read, it has been occurring on all phones that have updated to Pie. Some say that during beta testing, there was a developer option to toggle it on/off, but that toggle was removed for the final version.

I can't believe the designers allow Notifications to be treated like Media, thus not playing through the phone when Bluetooth connected to a Media device. There are plenty of times when I'm in my car but not actively listening to streaming music. How does the developer expect me to receive notifications!?

Like Connert said above, the quick work around is to turn off "Media audio" for each of your Bluetooth devices. Once you do this, notifications will play through the phone but you won't have able to stream audio (Pandora, YouTube, etc.) to those devices.

Yes you're right. I hope Samsung will fix it soon. Thank you for the info.

This work around does not work in either of my vehicles. I get SMS notification sounds, but no other message indication sounds. My "media" output has been off on the bluetooth for both of those long before the update that wiped out the notification sounds. I went back and verified after reading this post to make sure that PIE didn't reset those setting.

Would love if anyone else has any new ideas.

I've got a samsung chat tech insisting it's hardware and asking me to go to the closest brick and mortar store for "evaluation"!

The same Chat tech is saying that if it's an effect of the update we need to wait for a patch. I asked him to pass it up the line and he says he's passed it along

so....it's something
