Did anyone else run into this issue/bug when an app's notification sound just stops working and it randomly being misconfigured (they were set at numbers)? To get them back working you just re-assign the notification sound you want. It started yesterday for me and these were the apps affected:
Twitter
Outlook
Google Messenger

I just thought it was weird that this could actually happen.

I don't know if it's the same but it is related.... My ringtone got reset to some random sound all by itself. I didn't do it. I was using music that I uploaded to the phone. I set it back.

I've been noticing the same issue recently. I receive a lot of Twitter notifications, so noticed it right away. And the only way to fix it is to reboot or go into sound settings as you mentioned. Question... do you have Xposed installed? Just trying to narrow things down.

No, I'm not using Xposed.

After using DND I find that mine stops making sounds after I disable DND. Reboots fixes but it's irritating.

My custom Hangout's notification sound reverts back to the default theme even though my custom one is still listed in the settings. That's weird!

Think I found it......... Go into Apps and then App Permissions. Make sure storage is on for Hangouts.

I checked mine. I had them set to the hangouts sound and now both say unknown.

Mine does the same thing as OP....setting changes to some arbitrary numbers every few days. Happens in Google Messenger, but not Outlook. I'm on an unlocked Sony Xperia Z3 with Lollipop though.

Just happened to me this morning, every custom notification noise set for:

phone ringtone
Textra
Hangouts
Alarm clock

They all got reset to some default sound and show numbers in settings. My folder in downloads with the custom noises didn't move, in fact they opened right to there rather than my having to find it.

I rebooted a couple times yesterday working on a SIM PIN but nothing weird happened then.

Stock, encrypted and no root.

This also happened to me about a week ago. All sound names are now numbers. This happened on messenger, clock (alarms), Nine (email app) and Gmail. For some reason twitter and instagram still worked. What I noticed is that twitter and instagram do not display the sound name in the app while the others do. Maybe that has something to do with it?
