notification sound too soft

just got this for my mother. when she gets a text, the nortfication sound is very soft. i have changed the tones etc but all soft. where is the option to change volume of notifications? i can't find it. used to be there on other phones.

The notification volume is the same as the ringtone volume. Some older phones gave you an option to adjust notification volume separately, but these days you'd have to try a 3rd party app for that.

If you just got the phone it may need to be updated. There is a fix for the too low notification volume. A new phone may take a couple of days to get caught up on all the over the air updates. My wife got a Moto Z last Saturday, and for three days she received system updates before it was up to date.
