A good friend has a Droid and this has been happening for months, with both 2.1 and 2.2 (perhaps with 2.0 as well, when she bought the phone).
She doesn't tie ringtone volume with notification but another poster here (back 9 months ago) appears to tie hers, and it does the same thing.
The notification volume just keeps maxing out. Within hours it's back to max.
ANY idea what might be causing this? My friend is extremely bright and not at all afraid of her phone LOL so I'm reallllyy discounting user error.
