Notifications enabling themselves

I've just gotten a new S22 ultra (I'm not new to Android).

I have repeatedly gone to Settings/Notifications and turned everything but mail and text OFF. Yet repeatedly, I'm getting notifications from shopping, Amazon, maps, voicemail, etc. I go back do Settings/Notifications and those apps have turned themselves on! I turn them off again, but ....

Help - how do I keep control of my notifications bar?

This is where I'm turning things off. Even here, Amazon shows as having notified me several hours ago. It was set "off" previously, as it is again now.

Do you mean "Android security patch level"? That reads Jan 1, 2022.

Yeah , there should be a update available to March check manually in settings>software update and see if it's ok on that .

That's not the menu I'd usually go to. What if you go to Settings>Apps, select the app there, then Notifications, and turn the toggle off there?

Its pretty much the same like you mentioned or long press the app icon >tap info>notifications ....all these steps take you same place

OMG, I had the same exact thing happen to me. First couple of times I figured, oops forgot to turn the notification off for that but after it continuously happened, I knew something was definitely wrong. Drove me crazy!! I wish I could tell you I did something in particular but I think it was either an OS update or monthly update that eventually made it stop. Hasn't happened in quite some time. Will see if I can find my post about it and will share if I find anything that could possibly help.

Since this seems to be more than a one-off issue with Samsung devices, I would send feedback (through the Samsung Members app and/or the system settings) about it.

I've updated my security to March.

Happened again this morning: I (accidentally) screen-captured, a notification popped up in the bar, and now "Samsung Capture" has its notification-permission slider "on". It was not on before that, and that app is not even listed in the Included Apps under Notifications.

How. The. F. Do. I. Turn. This. Off.
(and by 'This' I don't mean that specific app, I mean: how do I keep any random app from allowing itself to notify me? I need to control my notifications.)

New thing: Now that I've fussed with a bunch of settings, several apps' slider buttons do not appear, and "show notifications" is greyed out on their individual page. These include Secure Wifi, Phone, GalaxyStore, Clock and Camera.

Have you tried a factory reset? I just did for my problem. Too early to tell if the reset did any good. But I need to find out if it is the phone, Samsung, or did I get some malware on my phone from the play store. If the phone, I still have time to return to Amazon.

Since the phone was new last week, and I have installed only a handful of garden-variety apps, I have very little faith that a factory reset is the answer here.

Happened again yesterday with Zillow app. I -know- I had it turned off, got a notification anyway, looked on Settings/Notifications, found it turned on. This is super frustrating.

I am confused about the Settings/Notifications menu. On that page, there is both an IncludedApps button, which leads to a list of most of the apps on the phone (each with individual on/off slider button, and a master on/off slider button), and a separate list of "Recently Sent", where most apps also have a slider button.

Is the latter, the Recently Sent list, really a readout list of settings? This is where I'm noting apps that have re-enabled themselves, as in my screenshot above where Amazon is (and was) off, yet also showed that it had notified me 3 hrs ago.

On the IncludedApps page, I have now set the "All Apps" button to off, and manually re-enabled only the apps I want to actually enable. Maybe this is the settings page where if I change the slider, it might actually stick?

It's a mystery.

You can read my result from doing a new Factory Reset. In my opinion, it worked and I blame all the notifications/ads on an app I installed the first day after initial setup.
