Notifications on android

I am not sure if is just the infuse or all androids phones but notifications are not as good as the iPhone 4 were. I use to get them instantly on my iPhone but on the infuse sometimes I have to open the app for them to work. which I think it defeats the purpose of the notifications?is this normal on androids or do I have a defected phone?

which apps? because perhaps they are not set to auto update.

please provide some more information.

sorry about the delay...I am having the issue with pingchat, twitter and facebook so far. sometimes i have to open the apps to actually get the notifications...weird

I haven't had any issues with facebook or twitter notification on my Infuse. The only app I have had an issue with is words with friends. It has only showed me once I think that it was my turn to play.
