Is there anyway to have a separate notification sound for texts? You could on previous phones, but on the S21, I got nothin'. It's very annoying because there seems to be only one notification sound used for everything. Outside of emails, that is. So, any way to have a separate sound for texts other than the catch-all sound? I'm gonna go with no. Thanks!

You mean like for people or for apps. I'm pretty sure you can customize per app and per person the notification sound

All I see is a general choice for notifications. As in, one for all. For example, I want to set the text sound to something other than the catch all for all system notifications. When it was Samsung Messages, you could set the text notification sound differently. Since it's now plain ol' Messages, I assume Google, you cannot - that I can find. As previously said, emails are fine, you can set those. Other things, like text/messages, not so much, that I can tell.

If you want to set a different tone for different people thT message you, you do that inside the contact (ex: Bob's notification sound is "")

Individual app notification sounds are in the App Info area.

Alarms can be set with their own sound too.

Yeah, I know about what you're saying, however, I'm talkin' the notification sound for all texts/messages, not just individuals. It was possible in the past, but apparently not so anymore. Android seems to now lump the text notification sound in with all notifications. Now my incoming texts sound like other notifications. It's very annoying. Thanks, though.

I can change the sound on my Note20U for Googles message app.

Long press the icon for messages then tap info >notification>tap incoming messages to bring up the sub menu and change soundsScreenshot_20210815-103834_Settings.jpg

S21 Ultra here. I've never used Samsung Messages, but I use Google Messages and I've used Textra in the past. With both apps I've had a specific sound for receiving text. In fact, I have different tones for text, sports notifications and forums notifications.

It sounds like you're looking in the phones settings. What you're wanting is app specific. In the app settings.

Hmmm...so the default messaging must be Samsung Messages. Strange. The app icon looks nothing like I remember, coming from a S7 to S21. Still can't change the notification sound for this and this app only. The app itself doesn't let you change the sound. Have to go with the overall notification sound which is in the phone's settings. I thought this must be Google Message or something, apparently not. So annoying they take this away.

You dont get the settings like my screenshot?

I'm going to chime in here and hope it helps.

I've got an S21 (T-Mobile base model) and I'm using Samsung Message app.

When I open the message app - tap on the vertical 3-dot toward upper right. Tap on *Settings* in the window that opens. In this
menu I can tap on *Notifications*. On that page I tap on *New messages*. On this *New messages* page that shows, there is *Sound*. When I tap *Sound*, a menu with several sounds to choose from show. I have the Crystal sound chosen as the sound for the Samsung Messages app. This is where I changed it from the default system sound.

A few years ago Google removed the ability to assign a notification tone to a specific contact. Now the only way is to assign a notification tone to a conversation with a contact.
