notifications say I have voicemails but I don't. how to clear?

I have a Motorola Moto X Pure Edition 2015 phone with Marshmellow and I'm on the Verizon network. It says I have 3 new voicemails and it's a notification I can't seem to clear. And even upon rebooting the phone, I get a sound notification that I have new voicemails but I don't. Is there a way to clear it?

Clear the cache of the phone app and Voicemail.

I have teh same issue with Cricket. I call VM, and then clear the visual VM and it goes away...
