notifications - sms

I come from iPhone and am coming to grips with the differences but one thing Im having trouble with is sms and missed call notifications.

Because the notifications are so tiny and there is only one alert notification sound for everything (from what I can ascertain) my sms' and calls get lost in all the loads of business emails I get.

I want to be able to differentiate sms messages - like iPhone, a big green icon with a custom sound which makes it clear you have a missed call/sms.

I've tried NILS and it is great but it doesn't really make it any easier unless you use the big notification window which is just painful and cumbersome

Has anyone got any suggestions? Open to trying anything! My wife is getting very annoyed because she thinks I'm ignoring her!

First of all you can modify the Notification sound by choosing your own or from an app such as Zedge... something that rings or chimes longer or more than once. For a visual clue, you can download an app called Dynamic Notifications which will light up your screen every few seconds (you set the interval) with the missed notifications (app icon and brief description) You can control which apps you want to see notifications for. There are many similar apps in the Play Store. Hope this helps...

As for sounds, not sure if you're using Gmail but you can set the sound for your Gmail account (different sounds per account) by going into Settings -> your account -> Inbox sound & vibrate -> Sound
