Nougat update on S7 - In Messages app- how to change display order of contacts -

My previous version and preference is to display contacts in LAST NAME order with each one showing first name, last name. With update the display order is by FIRST NAME. I can change this in the Contacts app, but have not found how to change it in Messages when contacts are shown there.

I have the same issue on my Galaxy Note 5. No where in Settings in Samsung's Messenger app is a Sort By option. Hack needed?

I've been totally annoyed by this for years. I have my contacts sorted and displayed by last name first, but people in my messages list and when I go to do a new message and pick someone from my contacts list those all become shown by first name first. It is completely stupid and there is no setting anywhere to fix this. Why is it over-riding the setting I have set that shows how I want my contacts to show?
